Dragged out Mystery with a Charismatic Lead
When the Phone Rings begins with an intriguing mystery but quickly loses its momentum. Personally, I found the drama slow and lacking the thrill it initially promised. The pacing felt dragged out—episodes could have been shorter and more tightly edited to maintain suspense. Midway through, I resorted to watching it at 2x speed just to get through it.
The storyline fell flat, and the romance was underwhelming. The chemistry between the leads didn’t quite land, partly due to Hong Hee Joo’s overly innocent and youthful appearance, which didn’t match well with the male lead. It felt like grooming and that's unpopular opinion, as opposed to many who found their chemistry sizzling. It's all in the viewers perspective.
That said, the male lead is undeniably charming—his screen presence is magnetic, and his moments flaunting the wedding ring are definite highlights. I’d partially recommend this drama for him alone, but beyond that, there’s little that stands out.
