No, it happens a lot in comments. There are many people who are refusing to watch a drama if the freaking actors…
Fair point, people do sometimes complain about age gaps when the male actor is older, but let’s be real—the backlash is often louder and nastier when it's the other way around. Sure, some might nitpick either way, but you don’t see the same level of outrage or mean comments about the actors when the guy is older.

um no ur wrong to say they dont "bat an eye" bcz they sure do, specially if the age gap is this big. but yeah…
They might complain, but it’s nowhere near the same level of outrage. The hate when an older woman is paired with a younger guy is on another level. At least we agree on one thing—actors are just doing their jobs, and people need to chill out.

Why do people freak out when it’s an older FL with a younger ML, but no one bats an eye when it’s the opposite? The double standards are so obvious, and it’s sad to see older actresses getting so much hate just for existing. Some folks need to chill and just enjoy the drama!

Age gaps are not new in Kdrama ...... Exactly and Agreed . Here viewers accept it When ML is Older and FL is younger.…
Absolutely! It’s wild how people lose it over an older FL with a younger ML, but the other way around is totally fine. The double standards are so real, and it sucks how much hate older actresses get for simply doing their job. MDL ratings can be so off—you’re right, always check the comments to see if they’re talking about the actual plot or just hating on the age gap.

This drama is truly worth checking out, and it's a shame to see it getting overshadowed by criticism about the plot and the age difference between the leads.
Age gaps in dramas aren't new.
it is indeed REALLY GOOD so far. i really don't understand the hate.
Instead of being misled by negative reviews, give it a try and form your own opinions.
Someone once advised me not to trust the reviews on this site, and I completely agree with them.
Only two episodes are out, and they’re looking pretty solid. It’s way too early to write off the whole plot—there’s still 14 episodes to come. With Kim Young Dae and Shin Min Ah in the mix, you know it’s gonna be worth it. They never disappoint, so let’s not be too quick to judge!
so far IT'S GOOD so WATCH IT.

The low ratings for this drama are puzzling. The characters are nuanced and the storyline is anything but shallow. It’s a hidden gem that deserves more attention.

I’m writing this because some of the criticism aimed at this drama is simply unfounded.
Let’s set the record straight: this drama has TOP TIER PRODUCTION , STELLAR ACTING , WELL CRAFTED PLOT.

The chemistry between the leads is electrifying, and the supporting cast adds so much personality and enjoyment.

That being said, this drama isn’t for everyone—it doesn’t rely on constant action or heavy political intrigue. Instead, it unfolds in distinct arcs (just what i felt): one dedicated to action, another to romance and character growth, and some focused on the themes of family, longing, and separation.

This makes it a TRUE GEM. To appreciate it, you need to slow down, savor each scene, and dive deep into the story. Once you do, you’ll understand why this drama is a cut above the rest.
Also do not depend on reviews and watch it for yourself. It might not be your cup of tea.

To those who were drawn to the story, comedy, romance and the characters, it is an extremely entertaining drama,…
I understand that some might attribute certain opinions to outside influences, but my perspective is based solely on my personal viewing experience. While others may have felt the chemistry, it simply didn’t come through for me. We all interpret things differently, and that’s perfectly fine.

Thank you for sharing your perspective and the literary parallels you’ve drawn, which are indeed insightful. Both of the main leads are actors I greatly admire, yet their dynamic in this particular drama didn’t resonate with me. Despite my appreciation for their talents, I found the chemistry lacking, which lessened my overall engagement. It’s always intriguing how the same series can evoke such varied responses.

Is it really better than 'Story of Kunning Palace'? That's a huge claim. But since I'm in a drama slump, I should…
I understand your perspective. I also prefer Xie Wei; his character in SOKP feels more layered and thoughtfully developed. Although Pei Wenxuan has his strengths, Xie Wei’s depth and evolution resonate more with me. I find that SOKP has a clearer plot and more defined characters compared to TPR. Well I am watching TPR rn and it's definitely enjoyable.

I was actually considering dropping it, but someone advised me to keep watching, mentioning the character development and additional elements that enrich the story. So, I've decided to continue and see where it goes.
