XLH may have been the start of him regaining his emotions but he literally chose to keep them instead of blasting his dad's soul to pieces in order to rid them again in the recent episode so if you want to blame someone, blame DFQC then because it's now his fault that he has his emotions. Also last time I checked DFQC was still planning on wiping out her people so even if you find her annoying, she did something that could possibly mean saving her home.
