I started watching this series only because of the main actor, whom I fell in love with in Hidden Love. The recommendations say that the drama is similar to the Korean "Descendants of the Sun", and I loved this series and it was with it that my adventure with Asian dramas began many years ago. I am a fan. That's what I can say about myself. I got through the first episodes and indeed the war, the soldier, the girl on the front, everything has some similarity to "Descendants of the Sun" and that's where the similarity ends. Compared to what awaits the main characters, Descendants of the Sun is simply a romance, while this series tells a story of trauma, emotions, great love and sacrifice. The White Olive Tree drags on a bit in the beginning, so I decided to read the novella. I also read a lot of Chinese or Korean novellas, but I haven't had the opportunity to read this one because such topics didn't really interest me. And to be honest, if this series follows the story from the novella, I advise you to prepare stacks of tissues. From the middle of the book I cried every other chapter, and the end was so emotionally difficult for me that I don't know how I'll manage to watch the drama. However, I will say one thing, the novella is excellent, without embellishment, it shows so much truth about the war, those who survived it and their suffering, that this truth forces us to internally worry and stop to consider what is really happening in the world. If the series follows the novella, it will be one of my favorite dramas, although it will be very difficult to get through many of its episodes. I am curious how Chen ZheYuan will handle the role, because he has a big test ahead of him. I recommend it to everyone who is wondering whether to read the novella. I hope the series is as good as it will be after the next episodes.

I watch both of them, so why not write that two were released at the time, maybe they compete with each other, but viewers watch them very often without being offended.
