if they air this soon i hope another ‘Love Between Lines vs My Page in The 90s’ doesn’t happen just because it’s the same actor/actress. the latter drama just didn’t get enough attention because everyone is talking ab the one that aired first
Republic dramas are 9 out of 10 times trashy and cringe but I do enjoy devoted obsessive MLs
yup.. theyre all enjoyable to an extent because of how goddamn dramatic they are. good to pass the time but you hardly find any that are actually GOOD in all aspects (directing, casting, plot, etc.) for example, Fall In Love 2021 was great, but cant bear to watch it becuase of how terrible the props are in that drama. if only they had a better budget huhuhuhu

ppl can do whatever they want its a comment section. i dont understand people on MDL who think they can govern what others comment. comparison is such a basic and everyday thing in dramaland, so people are gonna compare Overdo and TLOA, and if its not here, its gonna be in the Overdo comment section. MDL is a place for discussion. skipping past the comments u dont wanna read is less of a inconvenience then bugging people ab it. also you dont have to internalise others opinions

yup! no matter how good a script is, i dont think id watch a drama with that many dark themes in it and that much physical and psychological abuse to the FL inflicted by the ML. so thank god they changed it.
heres some hope for the ending/story. i think its highly unlikely for them to follow the tragic ending of the novel to T. even if they do choose a 'sad' ending, it will not be as terrible as the novel. i am not exaggerating when i say the novel ending was TERRIBLE. its not like the novel ending was an 'elegant, beautiful tragedy', it legit made me wanna 💀. of course, we wont know the drama ending until it finishes airing, however based on China's censorships, here are my predictions.
Censors prefer stories where the characters find a greater purpose. From the novel synopsis we can tell ML's character's motives have been changed drastically. In he novel, he is possessive and forcefully forces FL into many things without her consent and all of his actions are motivated by a need for control (he is extremely extrinsically motivated). I think this will still be portrayed to a certain extent (think the forced kisses and slight physical touch like in Overdo), however, their relationship turns into more a reciprocal situation, where both F/ML have hidden motives, not just ML using FL for his own twisted plans. Furthermore, his purpose in life shifts to more intrinsic goals of serving the country (yada yada patriotic god). Since he is rewritten as having 'motives for the greater good' rather than as an obsessive a*hole who has no compassion for others, i think they will make the following changes:
Strict rules against depicting "unhealthy romance models" or glorifying kidnapping, toxic obsession, and domestic abuse means the drama had to tone down many dark elements. Instead, the drama presents a mutual "marriage of convenience" and a redemptive arc. Therefore, they probably will not show EXCESSIVE non-consensual violent physical abuse. I think this will be because FL is in such a vulnerable position and ML has unhealthy power over her. For example, in Fated Hearts (2025), the ML and FL inflict vengeful, equal, but violent physical abuse on each other. However, they are both physically powerful people with goals of fighting for their respective countries and seeking revenge. This is not the same in TLOA where ML is in a position of power. However, that being said FL is shown being waterboarded and choked in the trailer so... I assume violence will be toned down after they establish romance?? On the flip side, there will 100% also be no themes of r*pe whatsoever. forceful kissing? probably. anything further? NOPE. thank god!!
Modern guidelines heavily restrict main leads (especially patriotic heroes or historical figures) from engaging in morally compromised behaviors like unfaithfulness, keeping mistresses, or exploiting students. To broadcast on major networks like Hunan TV, the leads must remain morally upright and devoted to each other. Therefore, I also highly doubt they will show explicit cheating/unfaithfulness of ML's character. Thus, we MOST LIKELY wont see the whole remarriage arc. with a young student that looks like FL (yuck!!!) If this does happen tho, it will be framed as 'ML remarries extremely unwillingly and forever holds onto the memory of FL after her death', and the student will look like FL by chance or only thru the ML's gaze (she is reminiscent of FL).
Since censorship strictly bans plotlines involving core familial taboos, excessive cruelty toward minors, or main protagonists causing the deaths of their own children as it violates the mandate to promote "core social values and moral harmony," i highly doubt they will follow the novel in showing the horrific death of their first child, nor the execution of their second child which was ordered by the ML. Therefore, they may change how their first dies. Think When Life Gives You Tangerines where the death was accidental. IMO, i think they will completely get rid of their 2nd child's death if they do choose to follow the tragic ending and death of FL.
But since so many things must be changed if they wanna do a sad and tragic ending, imo it will most likely (hopefully) be a happy ending since they cannot include most aspects that made the novel ending so bleak. If they choose to do an ending like the novel, it will likely be poorly written, extremely vague, open ended with so many unanswered questions and just not nice to watch. I've heard many praises towards the writing and directing team so hopefully they will give us a happy ending/ write a palatable sad ending.
TLDR: ML is poo in the novel 💩. Ending is poo in the novel 💩. if ML was the antagonist, they'd probably keep most things from the novel in. however, since he is the protagonist, our besties Cheng Lei and Xu Ruohan will most likely see sunnier days then novel Yu Changxuan and Ye Pingjun.
so yeah.. some hope for a good ending or atleast an ending that doesn't make me wanna personally cross the 4th wall and rip out ML's neck. 🥲
