This was so much fun to watch. Maybe because I went into it blind with no expectations. It felt like the narration between levels of a video game. I've always liked those. The main character's strength is his single-mindedness, everything else he does feels like side-quests to get him where he wants. He's only loyal to his goal and I hope they don't ruin that with romance in the next season (at least not with that whiny core formation grandmaster). I liked his inner monologues and how the side character stories were revealed without overwhelming the plot. The nepo baby villain was another character I liked. He's so unseriously evil.

Was not a fan of the flashback sequences. Some of the CGI could be better but most of if was real even if not perfect and I can live with that.

But in all, very worth the time I spent binge-watching.

Answer for those who are asking for Season 2

Yes, Season 2 of the live-action adaptation of A Record of a Mortal's Journey to Immortality has indeed been confirmed—though an official announcement hasn’t yet been made, several credible sources strongly suggest it’s in development.

What’s Confirmed So Far

The end of Season 1 clearly displays “第一季终” (“End of Season 1”) rather than “The End,” signaling the intention for a follow-up installment .

According to multiple reports, Yang Yang (the actor portraying Han Li) has reportedly signed on to complete the Ren Realm arc, which spans three planned seasons .

Additionally, the production team is actively preparing for Season 2 and aiming to retain the original cast (“原班人马”) .

What’s Still Unknown

No official press release has yet confirmed Season 2’s filming start date or premiere schedule.

Actor lineup and storyline details—beyond speculation about where the story will continue—have not been publicly announced .

In essence: Yes, Season 2 is both expected and reportedly in early preparation, with Yang Yang likely to reprise his role. However, the specifics—like a release date or new cast confirmations—are still pending from official channels.

Title This Thriving Land Spoiler
In the book she was stuck in the bandit's lair for 3 days 3 nights and was raped iirc. Dajiao is also unable to…
It did not reduce anything for me. The prejudices were still there, played out & understood Because she lied about it. She was so enraged , disappointed with her father that she made a point of it. It didnt take anything away for me other than not being faithful to the book which I didn't read anyway. So in that respect nothing was changed for me. It was written even up to the point of consummation of marriage does she then reveal the truth to her husband. Which makes Dajiao's character all the more admirable. His love and respect for her were pure & unconditional. Whether he was a cripple in the book didnt make a difference, they stayed true to the hard life they lived, he wasnt embellished , he still look shabby & rough in the edges. Sure r*pe would be uncomfortable to see there is no doubt but the elements were not reduced by her lying. I dont know why the decision was made or the intention of the writers to deviate but they did good as far as the elements were concern we still saw their prejudices, we still saw how it was back then. As for not being happy that they were not faithful to the book, of course that is another thing all together.

i have to say.....how could the fl, despite being a mind-blowing warrior who single-handedly defeated a brutal barbarian enemy general, starts crying in the middle of the battlefield because she thought her secret crush general was killed!!!! I mean, come on!!!! for me that was the lowest point of this drama....felt very very let down....

Fighting/war scenes are cool, but don't force romantic scenes into war scenes, they are both experienced generals on the battlefield, why are they given scenes where they both become careless and not in a state of alert and focus, if it's a war scene, romance is secondary, war is number one. Why do I say there is a scene that is too forced because when it is still a war, how can two experienced generals not be in alert focus? They should have included the romantic scenes after they knew they had won the war and the war had just ended.

dropped at ep17, waste of time
the score is 8.8, when you see something like this it means you're gonna see a masterpiece, it's NOT.
I have two major issues with this drama:
1_ his sin is unforgivable. his mistake cost the life of thousands of people. there have been dramas about the mistakes of generals or emperors like this that the main leads want to exact revenge on them. I hope this all be a conspiracy against him(if it is pls someone spoil it for me) but doesn't seems like that. the the cost of his mistake is death penalty. sorry but it's true. a murderer who killed thousands of people can't be a male lead.
2_ the female lead in this drama has two problems:
first is that a woman can be a leader or general, SHE can't.
her character is too poorly written. I can NOT even imagine her lead a casual group for anything let alone being a general who's gonna command at least thousand men in war?? give me a break. the example of a female leader can be Zhao liying in legend of shen li. she is nowhere near her, not in the least.
second problem is that, she can't ACT. her acting is too fake. when she laughs specially her sadness and anger is fake. come on!!!
8.8 I don't believe this is the score for such a drama. even in terms of romance this is not good and it's not like I haven't seen romance dramas; on the contrary, I've seen a LOT.
the drama is waste of talent like Ryan Cheng, what a shame

I was watched AvenueX’s review of this drama, and i mostly agree with her—especially about the earlier episodes where there were so many plot holes and the character introductions felt way too rushed. It was like they cut a lot of scenes just to fit everything into a 30-ish minute episode.
But! Since i’m watching purely for ZY & CL chemistry and their fight scenes, so i decided to just let it go and turn a blind eye to the illogical parts of the story 😃

Honestly, this is just my personal opinion, after that episode with the scene “我喜歡月亮,月亮不知道” (I really like that scene, hehe), I slowly started to get bored—up until episode 21 yesterday. There’s a lot i could rant about regarding the scenes.

For example, when HY cried over her “Shi Fu” who died—it’s clear that she was very sad, but as a viewer, i couldn’t feel any sympathy for her tears. Why? Because we never really got to understand what kind of close relationship they had.
From what we saw in the early episodes, the only scene where they met was when HY woke up from her “coma” and Shi Fu was by her side. And… that’s it. There was no detailed explanation of how big of an influence Shi Fu had on her. So, i just couldn’t feel the sympathy for Shi Fu’s death or HY’s grief over it.

Another example, the scene where HY and Huyate fight on horseback.
You can clearly see the water is shallow and full of rocks—they weren’t even submerged. When HY stabs the guy with her spear all the way through until it hits the rocky riverbed, you can see that the water is shallow. But then, when HY gets thrown off and falls into the water, suddenly it’s deep—like she fell into a lake 😒
Did she get thrown that far ?? But logically, no, the throw shouldn’t have been that far because from the camera shots of the soldiers fighting, that water was clearly not deep-lake water.
And of course, our hero XJ swoops in at the perfect moment to save HY , like XJ is a psychic who just knows HY is drowning. (yeah plot armour😅)

Those are just a few of the scenes i wanted to rant about. But still, i keep watching for ZY and CL’s chemistry. As for the rest… i just turn a blind eye 😆✌🏻❤️

I thought ML might remember the FL resemblance when she wear mask as General Feihong but it seems he never paid full attention in the past since they are not friends but just respect one another.

Also the fake couple under fake identity is nothing new but it need so that the FL will show her Female side and of course let the romance blooming beautifully.

FL as general 🤔⁉️
FL as housewife ✅💯

I'm in ep 15, but I hope it has better directing and scriptwriting of the FL backstory. Cause we dont see much of her struggle to use it as the premise of her journey to regain her title as a general.
The plot was presented just as it was, with little thought given to her backstory, ie suffering and struggles, even with ML's story.
This left me emotionally unengaged in her journey, which is the main element of this drama. Her "simple" non-complex portrayal of character, even cheerful at the beginning of the drama, with the cute face(is it the actress?) despite the actually tragic suffering she'd toe ndured since child, makes no sense to me, BUT I do enjoy the drama overall & the plots have a good premise.

This is adapted from a novel aimed at a target audience. When it's made into a drama, inevitably it will look…
Totally agree. I wasn't sure what kind of drama it would be, but after 3 episodes, it made itself clear. But it's OK, I will just sit back and watch the comedy and stop thinking about females being generals and all this latest fad of 'female empowerment', since much of this is performative and doesn't really tackle or know what it really is.

Maybe there will be one, but it's not this one I'm afraid. This is first and foremost a love story just set in the army. She gets masses of plot armour and gets saved a few times, so there is nothing unique about her character.

Being able spin and wave the sword is just like any other wuxia fight scene. Viewers are mainly captivated by her funny cutesy scenes. Pushing the boundaries of being cheeky with her favourite man and getting away with it. These scenes are easily transferable to any era and any type of workplace set up.

As for the novel, perhaps it was a little dated and too earnest they felt they needed more humour to make these scenes more palatable. Only novel readers will know.

I would have love this drama if they casted someone tougher as the Female General. So far, only two female actresses…
i think the problem is more the way they wrote her character in the script than the casting. she doesn't seem like someone who was able to become a general under disguise, she's too happy-go-lucky, none of the guys in the garrison act like that.
mulan 2009 def did well with the girl disguised as man

I would have love this drama if they casted someone tougher as the Female General. So far, only two female actresses of whom I know had portrayed such role was Zhao Wei as a soldier in Mulan (2009) and Liu Shi Shi as an Assassin in Journey to Love (2023). Maybe they are others which I do not know.
