If you read the synopsis,you would have found the trope ‘overly’ used because your review is basically explaining the synopsis

Playing victim is their habit

First of all, this drama is about Mai Cheng Huan's journey of growth and her struggle against her controlling mother. Mai Cheng Huan's mother is extremely overbearing and just annoying, treating her daughter like she's 12😫 I'm really eager to see MCH stand up against up her mother.
Secondly, that boyfriend of hers is just another annoying character who I can't figure out his reason for lying about his family background (maybe he just doesn't trust her and probably thought she would have dated him for his money). His lies, coupled with his mother's similar controlling nature like MCH mother ( just the richer version) makes him even more annoying .

I specially love Yao Zhiming early introduction to the drama. Despite his cold and aloof demeanor,I'm eager to see him open up like I've seen in the trailers and clips.
Then there's the usual annoying common trope in Chinese dramas for the female lead to endure mistreatment from a rival character, which I find really tiresome. I'm hoping that Mai Cheng Huan will also eventually stand up to that egg headed annoying colleague of hers

Anyway,I find the drama really interesting...so,onto the next episode 🏃
