If you're wanting something funny while also having a good story, I recommend Psychopath Diary. It's still airing but we're halfway through. Somehow, while being about a serial killer and tackling dark elements like murder and suicide, the show manages to be both funny and cringy in a looking-between-your-fingers-and-wondering-how-something-can-be-so-absurd kind of way. The plot isn't revolutionary, but the characters keep it feeling fun and interesting. The first episode can be a hurdle, though.
I get burnout from romances, but not from Kdramas in general. I suppose part of it could be that I really don't like Chinese dramas so I don't have many alternatives. I have yet to find one Chinese drama that I haven't DNF'd. I do have a lot of nostalgia for old dramas myself, and I feel those warm fuzzy feelings whenever I think of them, but watching them is another story. No matter what drama it is or how much I loved it, watching it again is only ever painful. Life is too short to rewatch the same thing two or three times!
While there were a lot of flops these past few years, I feel like it's always been like that. There are a few gems every year, and the rest are mostly time wasters. I also found that this year specifically was pretty great for non-romance dramas. It's so refreshing. There are thousands of romance kdramas out there, but when a story is plot oriented and doesn't focus on a couple, I find it so much more enjoyable. But I can definitely see how, if you like romances, this year has been a little less spectacular than the others. I think it comes down to taste rather than actual quality!
