Bullshit. I love Queer as Folk and most of the relationship there, especially the main couple Justin and Brian are not healthy.
TV is not to show how the world should be or how a couple should relate to each other. We have Dexter that romanticizes a serial killer, Sherlock does the same with a sociopath, Dr House romanticizes an asshole, Hannibal and actual cannibal who eats human meat... Supernatural the most unhealthy siblings relationship ever... of course these behaviors would not be appropriate in real life... but don't watch TV to be educated on how to behave/think/act.
We watch TV because it's entertaining, addicting and because it helps us forget about the real world for a little while. Should my kid (if i ever have one, which I doubt) not watch Cinderella in case she thinks life is about waiting for a fairy godmother/prince to rescue you? No. But the will watch because it's a cool movie, with nice songs and beautiful animation. I hate it when people try to politicize and censure the media.
Yes, I am part of the LGTB community. A minority badly represented, actually. I'm bi/demisexual. We never see demi or asexual people in TV. Well, I understand there is no much interest because most of the drama comes from unhealthy, complicated relationships. Why should they portray only healthy LGTB relationships? In real life you can find all kind of relationships so why should they limit themselves to create a false representation....? No way!
Plus you are judging this series from a western perspective. In most Chinese dramas the female lead or in this case the less aggressive one (i would say the most passive but BLY is not passive) tries to step away or reject the ML when the ML kisses them, even though they want to be kissed. It's not something I particularly like or enjoy but I have lived in china and my Chinese friends have explained why they represent relationship like that. So there is that.
Sure, you just ruined 50% of the most famous and popular TV shows. Let's portray healthy relationships... the ones nobody cares to watch. Goodbye Buffy, Gossip Girl, One tree hill, the vampire diaries, HIMYM, etc etc
well I don't. I read the novel and Luo Yin's POV makes it clear that he wants GH, he likes having sex with him…
I guess that's true. Sadly, it's a pretty common trope in Asian shows. Usually the female character says no when the main lead tries to kiss her and the pushes the boy away but they obviously want to be kissed
the first 10 episodes were really cute, Gu Hai was just showing some anger issues but episode 11 and onwards took…
well I don't. I read the novel and Luo Yin's POV makes it clear that he wants GH, he likes having sex with him and he is falling in love with him... he just can't bring himself to admit it because that would make him gay. There is only one occasion in the book that GH does something against LY's will but the shows ends before that happens... and believe me, LY makes him pay for it.
they are kids for fuck's sake!! my own sister was in a toxic relationship with a guy when she was 17. then they broke up, matured a little and now they are back together in a healthy relationship. who isn't a bit toxic at 16-17?
Should I watch this even if it has an open ending?
even though the ending is open, it's a nice conclusion for season 1. they only open the conflict for season 2 in the last 5 seconds of the last episode. You will definitely cry because you'll want to watch more eps but not because the ending is open but because you'll have fallen in love with the leads
This was boy love, no bromance. I have read the book and yes, they have to cut off all the kisses and sex scenes, but those two are a real couple. They live together, bath together and sleep together in the same bed. I can feel their love for each other. I recommend to read the book too.
Best B-Love Drama ever!!! I watched it, then I read the books, then I watched it, then I read the book again. Now I am looking for fanfictions. It's truly addictive, guys!
Does Vengo play an important role? I love season 3 but it was mainly his character and the female lead that I liked. I'm hesitant to watch this now that he plays a supporting role instead
Chinese "BL" sucks! Even the few decent ones are censored. Censorship is anti-liberty and evil!
Have you watched Addicted? It was released before the ban, actually its popularity was the cause for the ban, but it's the best BL series I've ever watched. I'd put it up there with the American version of Queer As Folk
Okay,.. I honestly had high hopes...But seriously.... what the hell was with that STUPID finale?????I was cringing…
Dont they end up together? In the book they are married. I have gotten my sister to watch this drama promising her a happy ending. Now I am super worried. She's kill me if i lied!
I havent read that far. I don't speak chinese so I am reading the translated version. The translator has updated up til chapter 101 or so, so I am still waiting to read the last few chapters. She has done a wonderful job and I'm so thankful to her... I know there is something wrong with him, since he was hit in the neck by the russian player his reflexes have slowed down. He doesn't die, right?
Really like Tang Xue and Li Yu Bing, they have great interactions and some really fantastic chemistry, but the…
I skip all the parts about TX's two friends. It's nice the her friend cares about animals, especially considering chinese culture, it's a good thing to portray in TV, but their relationship is boring. However I am super invested in the main couple and I love them to bits!
