i wish i could forget the first season so i can rewatch it completely blind like i did the first time. i finished it 3-4 years ago, and there are a lot of details i've forgotten about, but the finale was just so incredibly well-done, striking and rich in emotions for me that it's still burned in my mind to this day. 10000/10, a masterpiece. i couldn't stop watching it once i passed the 3rd episode and literally had goosebumps during the finale. what a script.
not gonna lie, i watched this only because makoto was in it but i didn't expect it to be good. BUT IT IS.
i loved how detailed, but not overwhelming, the explanations about MMA techniques are, and how the fights were choregraphied. very realistic imo. it was a really immersive show and the camera work really added to the atmosphere i think.
aoba is an interesting protagonist, last episode cemented that for me. and of course his chemistry with iwase-kun is...*chief's kiss*.
the cherry on top here is how absurdly hot makoto looks in this drama lol. i'll be watching if another season gets released!
imo shishio and wakamiya's relationship (how and why they first meet, how they start collaborating etc) is a beautiful…
i'm VERY late, but i wanted to say i'm glad you liked the story! there is also a special episode and a movie as well to watch after the series if you want more.
To those who think that it isn't worth your time; watch the first episode and see if it's for you. Don't let other…
just wanted to let you know your comment convinced me to start this drama and now i've already rewatched it once. it's SO good and i concur: the kisses are WOW.
i finished this drama one week ago, i've already rewatched it once, and i'm about to start another rewatch. that's how much i loved it. it has all the elements i love the most in bl stories — slow burn, a beautiful cinematography, a melancolic vibe, a lot of meaningful gazes, a particular attention to details, a lot of spice and tenderness, sprinkled with a lot of pining.
the MLs' performance is incredible. their chemistry is to die for and they both embody their characters perfectly. komagine in particular did a phenomenal job at portraying hayama, a very complex character.
personally, i found the way the miscommunication was treated in this drama refreshing and actually making SENSE with the characters. but imo, to understand that, you have to pay attention to details, and see beyond what is blatantly shown to you. shirasaki is not only a stereotypical "clueless" guy and hayama is not just "stoic" and "unable to communicate". it goes deeper than that for both characters, and the drama gives the audience all the clues to understand that.
anyways, this drama cemented for me that i won't take jdramas bad reviews on mdl at face value ever again unless they're overwhelmingly bad lol. they're always less rated than they should imo? i almost pushed this drama further down my list when it turned out to be 100% my style. sure, there is one thing i liked less towards the end, but it was quickly corrected. for me it's a 9.5. but i put a 10 because people on this website are just too much.
as someone said below (which encouraged me to start this drama) : don't read the bad comments and watch it to see if you like it or not + the kisses & the tension are EXQUISITE.
i binge-watched it yesterday night & finished at 5 am (and i started work a few hours after that lol).
i gave it a 10, but if i could give it 20, 30 or even 100 stars, i would.
this BL is a masterpiece, and the fact that it has only 5 eps and still managed to make me feel so many things is cementing for me the uniqueness of japanese bls, and their overall high quality. that might be why it's easier for me to watch jbl dramas.
the chemistry between the MLs is to die for, and the story is just so incredibly cute and at the same time, filled with the perfect amount of tension. i have no words to accurately describe how important this drama is imo. it tackles on so many important topics in ONLY 5 episodes and with so much sensitivity. it's so warm, so tender, so heartbreakingly beautiful at times and yet, so comforting. i know i'll be rewatching this again and again.
the only thing i regret is not watching it sooner — i don't like drama with plots entirely relying on comedy, and the poster kinda made me think it would be that kind of drama. so i pushed it further down my to-watch list. big mistake. guess i've learned not to judge a drama by its poster lol.
i really need more content, whether it's a movie or a series, ANYTHING really. please. in the mean time, i'll quench my thirst with the manga but i know it won't be enough...
i'm on my fourth rewatch of this movie. criminally underrated. ryo and tadayoshi's performance is excellent. what makes this movie so strong is how subtle it is at times then bold. and the beach scene is absolutely stunning (i'm still trying to find the song playing during...). just thinking about it again makes my heart squeeze.
this movie makes me feel a wide range of emotions at each rewatch. 100/10.
beautiful drama and incredible performance by the actors. i was pleasantly surprised by makoto. and i love how tender, spicy and nostalgic the whole drama felt — completely my style. the chemistry between the two MLs is to die for. this BL has become one of my favorites, i already want to rewatch it.
i binge-watched the whole h&l s.w.o.r.d series in a few days and this movie is a sublime ending for it (10/10 for me). i thoroughly enjoyed it and will really miss this cast and all the gangs, especially the rude boys (and one character in particular ;;).

ah i'm glad you've been satisfied so far with the show! as for the whole shipping stuff, i feel you HHHH. for me, the chemistry was good enough to make me delulu to this day but i may be too far gone lol i won't say anything more so i don't spoil you but i really hope the rest will satisfy you at least on that level. some things could have been done better in this drama, but still, it's terribly underrated imo.
still i haven't watched the second season though.
