I really try to understand what you’re saying here. So far I get that your country was once occupied by western colonialists, and now that it is China’s turn in Africa, people shouldn’t be so sensitive about it 🫣 incredible
Since everyone think this is a racist movie. This movie supported by the United nations. The United Nation also…
No complaints here, just questions. First, do you believe propaganda on weibo? Second, do you think it’s UN proof to wear dreadlocks, blackface and lipstick to fool those “silly” Africans? Third, are you okay with Chinese agents invading other countries? Four, if you’re on weibo that much, did you happen to see all the jokes about black people as well? In my opinion this movie isn’t just racist, it’s a blatant disregard of other people and nations, entirely made for the hallowing of CCP Utopia. It pains me to see WYB has been used like opium in an attempt to dull our senses.
Of course racism is never okay, and you can say that proudly and easily. But you need to think about which country…
It’s true, like you say ‘If you have talent and influence, the government/rich/powerful will likely recruit you.’ Perhaps idols should be aware of this before they join government circles in China where power and money are two sides of the same coin. Party support may bring you riches but it’s your soul and artistic career you’re dealing with, so choose wisely. One more thing, you refer to living in the western world as being easier, but I can assure you that is not the case. It’s a lot harder to become famous in the west where power and money are more divided.

You’re stating the obvious that celebs living in a totalitarian state don’t have freedom of speech, but if you ask me “do you really expect Yibo to go against his home country and government?” I would say the question is wrong, because there’s always a choice. Yes, it is obvious how single minded/ hard working he is in reaching his goals, but when stardom must be paid with trampling over others, it’s time to rethink your options. Some actors leave, quit for some time or choose another career. Don’t tell me their families got killed till the third degree like nothing has changed since the imperial days.
This is Chinese movie that is only released in China and Thailand. Which are none Democratic Countries. It is…
@Laramd13 Thanks for pointing out the context to us but what exactly are you trying to say? * this movie is meant for Chinese only; so foreigners should keep their critique to themselves? * China is notorious for its cancel culture, especially idols should take precautions by going with the flow? * there are other controversial productions, why blame the actors? * this movie is based on a true story, meaning Chinese agents once invaded another country to get citizens back by making a blackface and these corrupt Africans didn’t have a clue they were Asians? All of the above seems disturbing to me and all the more reason to start a discussion in stead of accepting the status quo and different POV’s. No matter how long it takes.
First of all, YH has no say in what projects Yibo chooses. Secondly, did you watch Hidden Blade? Even though it…
I’ve no complaints about WYB’s growth or his appearance in movies but I state that the artistry of drama and movies alike is getting killed by censors and marketeers in China. Every on-air appearance, public event is highly regulated, boring. Sometimes, when I watch WYB I get the impression he’s bored himself.
First of all, YH has no say in what projects Yibo chooses. Secondly, did you watch Hidden Blade? Even though it…
Aigoo all that negative energy wasted on whining me “a painfully typical CQL-Only Fan” Dak-sal do you know me? And this, “The type of content you like won’t be coming back” Who are you, his manager? Let’s agree to disagree.
First of all, YH has no say in what projects Yibo chooses. Secondly, did you watch Hidden Blade? Even though it…
Right, “fake news” and “conspiracy theories” 🤨 Did you perhaps forget the fact that WYB insisted to play Lan Wangji, he even took a plane for a live audition after he was rejected. Do you really think that he suddenly loves to play ultra nationalistic roles now that the CCP tightens its grip over the country’s creative sector? They’re regulating the on-air appearances of male celebrities; not just WYB, but also forum movie stars and boyband members. Don’t you recognize the party’s gold standard of an ideal Chinese man popping up in current productions? If not, than who’s the hypocrite here? In stead of dividing WYB’s fans into true fans and anti’s, you better keep your fingers crossed that the party will leave him alone. Perhaps this will happen if it is made crystal clear that no one is deluded by party propaganda.
First of all, YH has no say in what projects Yibo chooses. Secondly, did you watch Hidden Blade? Even though it…
You know, when you’re making assumptions like "non-fans and international viewers" were watching this movie "thinking deeply about the details" while (I) "didn't want to pay attention"…you are implying that because a certain opinion is held by a majority, it is therefore correct. Like Three Men Make a Tiger. Perhaps I am a fan who was paying attention, I just didn’t like what I saw. Maybe, just maybe, my personal opinion is an issue for you.
First of all, I'd ask uneducated people here who don't understand anything about their lives, probably bored Americans,…
Why do you feel the need to defend Korean society against so-called bored Americans? I don’t get it. We are k-drama lovers all over the world, who mourn a beloved actor. We see his death as a symptom, a dark side of South Korea. It’s a fact that every 40 minutes a citizen of SK ends his or her life, 36 persons each day, confirmed by government statistics. That’s a lot! Three rescue teams supervise 27 bridges in Seoul on a daily basis. This isn’t a Chinese (TikTok) conspiracy, they’re on the payroll of Seoul’s police squad for all to see. The government of President Moon Jae-in promised to invest millions in psychic care because of this phenomenon in 2018. What’s a real Chinese influence though, is the rigid concept of Confucian selfhood. If you’re forced into moral perfection as a human being, or worse, as a celebrity who cannot hide in a highly competitive world …it’s a sure ticket to anxiety, depression, death. To change this pattern of self-destruction we have to admit to ourselves that something is awfully wrong with Korean society, not pointing at others calling them names like bored Americans.

@LuckyFire I did, I saw both movies and wasn’t impressed. Hidden Blade is arty-farty; stylish dark camera work and a waste of good actors; without a real message other than that there are patriots hidden everywhere willing to die for communism; One & Only is a dance movie just like any other I’ve seen the past twenty years with an unrealistic character to boot: WYB is China’s national angel in stead of human. So, still standing with the OP and hoping for better, artistic levels next year
it's his choice. he is free to choose his own roles and he just probably don't want to do idol dramas anymore
Your comment says it all. “You don’t know” …”Fake information” …. “Stop this…” “Stop that” … This is a forum to share opinions, not a war base for self proclaimed police stans.

I doubt it. WYB seems bound to the party, his studio and the money they get from contracts with high end fashion labels. He has to line up with Chanel clientele and automobile billionaires. The CCP allows this western capitalism in exchange for paying tax and playing propaganda movies. I hope he gets freed from this kind of contracts before his artistic career is over. It can be done, look at Xiao Zhan and Leo Wu who have their own studios now.
Thank you for your review. I can relate to your comments on propaganda. It pains me to see how the CCP uses actors like Xiao Zhan and Wang Yibo for party purposes , it really shows in their work and public appearances nowadays and not in a good way 🙃. Still I hope for both of them they will slip under the radar eventually. As they say: life passes, riches fly away, popularity is fickle.
There have been observation about the pattern regarding the fame or scandal that the male actors seem to have…
Like I said, divide and rule. If someone doesn’t know which person will be penalized, people will be insecure about their fate, which makes them follow all the rules obediently. That’s Machiavelli for you 😉
