No it hasn't been specifically told in the series yet but it is in the novel .But in the latest episode the grandpa said that Hai Yuan had the same mole next to his eye that his wife and the friend had so it kinda points to that.

It's the childhood friend, wife and Hai Yuan who all have a mole in the same place.

The red thread is meant for Hai Yun and Xia Cha. And the dreams are about Xia Cha's childhood and his friend he told in one episode that the friend used to catch cicadas for him. That friend had a mole in the same place as Hai Yuan.

The thing is that Hai Yaun is the reincarnation of Zefang's grandma who was a reincarnation of the grandpa's friend. So it's not really Hai Yaun falling in love with the grandpa. Because of this it would be much weirder for Zefang to be with Hai Yuan.

They are a big part of the series at least for the first 9 episodes. Episode 10-14 they weren't shown. Don't know about the rest of the episodes yet because only 14 episodes have aired. But for the first 9 they are shown quite often. As far as skipping the scenes with them you would be skipping a lot and miss a lot of the story for the first 9 episodes especially because Chi Cheng one of the leads has one snake that he carries around with him everywhere so you would be skipping pretty much all of his scenes.

The friend was that same boy that the grandpa played with as a kid

I'm sure he has his reasons but just thinking about how hurt Yingtao will be and how it could make her feel when he leaves without telling her it makes me sad.

No I don't think that and I never expected that. And I understand everything you are saying. But to me it's just cruel to leave without saying anything because it will break her heart.

I'm just putting myself in her situation and thinking about how I would feel. And it's not good.

If your significant other suddenly leaves without saying anything even if they have good reasons if you don't know their reasons then you are going to be heartbroken. Asking yourself why they did that? Wondering/thinking that maybe you did something wrong that made them leave. Questioning if they even considered your feelings when they made that decision maybe even questioning if they even cared about you at all. Possibly even thinking that they are ghosting you because they don't want to be with you but were too much of a coward to tell you. And as if that's not enough because you care about them you would also be worrying wondering if they are doing ok. Your mind would go crazy wondering, thinking, worrying but getting no answers. You could/would be suffering while they are off doing their own thing not doing anything to put your mind at ease. And to me that is just cruel and it makes me sad.

I can admit that I was a bit harsh on him earlier. I do understand his reasons but just because I understand his reasons doesn't men I have to like his actions.

I'm sorry I misunderstood your comment. It confused me I guess because OP said they wished he would leave home and never look back so when you said he had a plan for so long I thought it meant a plan to leave home.

Yeah his plan to just leave Yingtao again without a word and then she has to go find him years later? That is just wrong. I understand needing to get away from his parents but to leave and not say anything to Yingtao when he's supposed to care about her?

And if it was his plan then why did he even go through the trouble of fighting with his mom to be friends with Yingtao and the others again if he was just going to leave like that without saying anything? He's giving Yingtao hope that they will be close again when he knows he's planning to leave? His actions are cruel towards Yingtao (in my opinion) and if I were her I would never want to reconcile with him.

That doesn't sit right with me at all. I understand needing to get away from his parents and that his cousin has an accident. But he seriously couldn't tell Yingtao anything? I understand if he couldn't before he left but why couldn't he after he gets to Hong Kong? And he's supposed to care about her? If you really care about some one you don't just disappear and not say anything to them. That is just wrong and cruel. She shouldn't try or even want to reconcile with him if she didn't even mean enough to him for him to tell her what was going on (just my opinion).

I was liking this drama except for his parents and Cen Xiaoman but now I don't even know if I can completely like him anymore or root for him and Yingtao. It's disappointing.

I understand that she is still hurting/grieving because her other son died and I feel sorry for her for that, but that doesn't mean she should treat JQX the way that she does. She is forcing him to be a replica of his brother which isn't healthy for her or JQX. She blame Lin Yingtao for putting a wedge between her and JQX when it is her that is doing that by not letting him be his own person and for not accepting him for who he is instead of forcing him to be just like his brother. And not letting him have friends or socialize with other kids and just wanting him to study all the time isn't good for him either. She doesn't want him to have friends because in 10/20 years they won't be friends anymore? What kind of logic is that? And even if that's a possibility it doesn't mean they can't be friends now. Oh yeah and she will let if have friends IF he makes the national math team. She's putting requirements and demands for him to be able to have friends when most parents want their kids to have friends. She's pushing him too hard and too much and no matter how many times him or his dad tell her that she still thinks she isn't doing anything wrong. She even asked him why should he get to have/choose the life he wants when she doesn't. So she basically wants her son to be unhappy and miserable just because she is and that is wrong. A person's grief/trauma isn't an excuse for them to hurt other people.

I would never chase after anyone who did that. You left and was gone for years without saying anything? Then you can just stay gone (but maybe that's just me).
