Alright, I know that at first glance people might think that I must be crazy to recommend Goblin for AMA. However, hear me out.

- I am definitely not recommending this as having a similar romantic storyline as both have romances that couldn't be more different. I personally have a huge dislike towards the romance part of Goblin (worst I have seen yet, makes me disgusted and uncomfortable). As for AMA, it has the best romance I have ever seen. Zameen aasman ka farq as we say in Hindi (meaning as different as earth and sky).

- Why I am actually recommending this is because of the bromance in Goblin. The relationship dynamic between Goblin and Grim Reaper is eerily similar to that of the dynamic between XX & GYZ in AMA. The way I wished that Goblin and Grim Reaper were the actual couple (and I am not a BL fanatic at all. Just a normal bisexual woman that ships regardless of gender), Goblin would have been so much better if it was about these two sigh......

The stories are very different on the surface, but the core themes appear to be very similar. The kind of response Mirae's character is getting is identical to what Chen Yun Ru got in SOOD. And if you are a mature person with a well functioning brain, you will loathe what certain privileged people have to say about these 2 characters. It will remind you that even in 2025, we still have people that get annoyed at people who are struggling psychologically and look 'depressed' all the time giving 'negative vibes'. SOOD has done an excellent job with Chen Yun Ru's character, and OUS is doing very well with Mirae's character so far. If you need a drama with such complex and highly realistic characters, watch SOOD & OUS.

Both shows are set in the 20th century, WLGYT starts from 50s and RITA starts from the 70s. Both are serious family dramas that are heavy on realism. If you are looking for another slice of life, realistic and emotional drama, RITA is the perfect choice.

Although they appear very different from each other, the core aspect that is similar in both dramas is that both are feminist shows. WLGYT depicts the hardships that women faced throughout the ages and SAHG is based on an actual story about a teacher who dedicated her life to provide free education to girls living in poverty ridden areas despite all the challenges she faced. If you are looking for another feminist show, SAHG is the perfect choice.

Both shows are set in the 20th century, and tell stories of a family that stood strong despite the rapidly changing times. WLGYT starts from 50s, while ALJ starts from 70s. Both stories have multiple shining moments. ALJ is widely popular within China as one of the most realistic shows ever made. This show is so authentic, the Chinese call it 'a documentary, not a drama'. In terms of actors, ALJ is even more realistic given the actors look exactly like they used to look back then due to the hardships they faced.

ROOP is also set around 50s. Both shows portray the life of people in that era. ROOP can be said to be even more realistic, since it features serious mainstream drama actors who look exactly like how someone living in those times would look given all the hardships they faced. If you liked WLGYT for it's slice of life and realistic elements and love to watch realistic shows, then you would love ROOP.
