I believe dropping after the first 2 episodes can't really tell about a drama in general, I always try the first 8 episodes to decide if it's good enough to invest my time on it.
For LBFaD I was hooked for first ep, I didn't have much expectation though but it gave so much story depth than I could have imagine

So for my humble opinion, the romance is really sweet.
The main focus is about our leads, the storyline is well written, and unique because they destroy the overall trope seen in cdrama and made the cliche work. Story is fast paced too. Still ongoing but angst will come starting this week. Not that heavy not that light too, the perfect balance for now.

I think it's a gradual process and the heart curse help them develop their relationship further.
Hence, the moment when she was sick and he took care of her and she said to not do that because she will be used to it and the only person that have done that was only his master. That was the moment I think her feeling grow (adding all the little gestures he had done for her like waiting for the first water in the morning, the sunbathing😂😂), later she tried so many ways to save him, when they jump in the water, or when she pack his thing and bring him on a boat. Her sense of protection for him grow as well.
For DFQS, linking his heart to her, feeling what she feels, understanding what she thinks about. For a demon lord who lost his emotions, not close with anyone (even he had trust issues with SQ), XLH gave him the opportunity to feel all that somehow.
And we can see the first genuine smile he gave her when they watch the sunrise in heavenly realm and she thanks him with sincerity (His heart melted, my heart melted * KYAA). They kiss 2 times during the body swap (ep2), but the kiss under water seal the deal, we can see how his feelings for her change. His jealousy against CH were so apparent since he broke her table in arbiter hall that day.

And ep13 turn the table for orchid, because not only they started to understand each other more (thanks to the body swap, I can't help but praise this scriptwriter). In this situation of death, XLH chose him in that instant when they change back.
For DFQS, he demonstrates it in ep11, DFQS saved her, I believe not because of the heart curse, but his feeling have already grew. Thus, he was so mad when she said she wanted to go back in ShuiYunTian and decided to put the ring before her eyes.

Anyway, gradual progress that's my point. Actions speak more than words for these two even without this "I LOVE YOU"
