My premium time to drop a show is between episode 3 and 5. After that I usually force myself to go on. It has happened a few times that I just finished a show out of spite!
Ep17: wtf, so that girl takes his chocolate without asking first. Then gets defensive when he calls her out and she STOLE the whole box on the way out?! What is up with these characters?! why is everyone so...awful in this show?!
"your mother read your diary because she cares about you and treats you well." NO, NO! That is not why she did it. She read her diary because she has no respect for her daughter's personhood and wants to control her. What a horrible, dangerous thing to teach children. Abuse should not be reframed as extreme care. We always call out abuse in romantic relationships but in familial dynamics, they always get dismissed as caring and that is so dangerous. Children have been harmed with such excuses.
I wanted to stop to let it all out just like how ive been doing to all dramas but i just cant seem to wait for…
I might wait so I can watch with good subs because it's just ruining the experience at this point. I waited a long time for this so I want to enjoy it in the best way now!
I have to say, I can't relate to all the upset reactions to ep28. I find the show to be very entertaining and fun to watch. It's not really upsetting if a character is acting in a way that is in accordance with their established personality. Here so far every character has been consistent.
I think most people complain because they feel it's "unrealistic"...but is not based on real historial characters,…
Idk, this makes it sound like she owed him sexual and emotional favor, just because he celebrated her birthday? And that is 100% not what Liang Yi would ever want. He just has too much respect for her to tie her down with debts and favors. He understands her and wants her to pursue her aspirations the same way that she wants him to advance in his career, even if she would feel more at ease with him home and safe. I think it's actually the realization that she likes him enough to put her own dreams on permanent pause for him that makes her say what she did and go away. Because it was now or never. Once they confessed and started living as a real couple, possibly having children, she wouldn't have another chance to venture out on her own. It's also for the exact reason of being set in ancient times that she cannot go after her dreams in a way that one would in modern times. Nowadays, people have the option of having a family life and a career but for most of history, it was either/or. I thought it made sense the way things happened and their story is far from over. I had suspected this would happen at the very end but since it has happened now, there's actually a chance for them to end up together by the end of the show.

There were definitely female writers, poets, and artists in different dynasties. If I'm not mistaken, a very famous Tang dynasty poet is actually a woman. It wasn't that unusual, really. Sure it wasn't as advanced as modern era by any standards but it wasn't absolutely impossible either.
