It is definitely being a bit dramatized. Of course you won't have access to many things. Most or sometimes all of your assets are in the name of your family and you can be cut off access to that in situations like this.
But most of them will have their own savings, personal investments and support networks pretty easily.
But being cut off = immediate poverty = great character development arc. We love to see that as well.
A bit convoluted way of showing timelines that are difficult to follow with so many sub plots. But still, you can pretty easily guess the overarching plot even if they try to make it complex. Also, i felt it was a 4 episodes too long.
