I think it's out of his hypocrisy. He is a long admirer of HQ but hesitant to make advances on her. He may disgust her guts and her social-climbing family. After all, HQ is the most notorious lady in the town. And then, after HQ marries to ZYL , he seems like has the urge to win her back.
