well so far from other many kingdom drama. majority empresses or emperors have their side love 😂 so that was very normal occurence. so in their life it is just being a good 'companion', as long empress not doing anything bad like rebel or make bad decision there will be no doubt. plus 😂 it's the way how the scriptwriter wants it

I think she is just trying to help emperor as usual of being an empress and arranging marriage of her daughter (and other prince/princess from emperor's concubines...just as empress normal duty). As for her lover's gift ... well if no one say anything, no one other than those close to her will know plus the lover is dead. So how much threat/problem that can bring to their life?

you do realise when marrying an emperor means they possibly not fully or always in love with each other. Emperor can have hundreds concubine and probably love them more than to his empress because usually those got picked for an empress has a strong/powerful background as back-up. Empress and concubine in palace are like in cage and having to cut throat at each other.

yeah that was unfortunate but either live action or novel, at least they both give us good closure, I won't be too picky as to compare with other dramas that have bad or open ending (which currently very common in cdrama land)
