Thank you for giving me more background on the actor who plays Hao Du and how his fans played a part in fueling the Haoyan ship. I'm not familiar with this actor but have heard of Lusi and know she is popular and assume a lot of her fans would support this pairing.

As fans, we like who like and we ship couples for variety of reasons. I think it's fine that fans want to voice who they like. In fact, I think it's good thing that the second couple is also generating traffic to give more recognition to the drama. I just hate comparisons between couples without providing reasonable explanations because it's a no win situation. People have their favorites and biases. I would prefer seeing separate discussion threads supporting one couple and leaving the other out of the discussion. At the same time, if one does not like one couple, just explain the reasoning behind it without dragging the other couple into it especially knowing how testy both fans bases are. I hate one liners like the chemistry is better than the other without rational justification. For me, personally I stay away from topics of characters that I do not enjoy. I think it's better for my peace of mind and I rather spend positive energy commenting on the areas that I do like about TLB.

I stand by the statement that most fans generally support a particular couple because they are fans of actors playing the couple but for a tropey love story like Haoyan which we have seen many times before, the popularity of the second couple has been propelled more so by the popularity of the actress of Lusi than a normal second lead couple. I don't think they will be discussed as frequently compared to other second lead couples of the same formula if not for the actress. I expect extensive discussion on the lead couple because they are the lead. So, I don't think this general statement is inaccurate and that is my opinion.

Likewise, fans of GeSun fans might also be fans of Reba and Leo but because their love story is more unique in how equal and balance their relationship is that I think it might attract more fans that might not necessarily be fans of the artists to start with (like me) and that is conclusion from the discussion on this board.

I don't know everyone's reason as to why they favor one couple more than the other but why didn't the original poster (a Haoyan fan) just state he/she is a fan of the second couple and detail why he/she is a fan instead of making a comparison? There are no life lesson comments here (at least from me) unless you took them as such. I'm just sharing my opinion and I am making generalizing comments based on my observation and you can take them as that.

I'm not familiar with Douban scoring. Is the score based on critics reviews or factor in audience voting to come up with an overall score? I thought TLB is a successful drama internationally, but is it not well received in China? It's a disservice if the rating is marked down for petty, inconsequential things like age difference of our main couple or the two strands of Changge's hair (I cannot believe that even came up as criticism when it follows the look of the manhua). I know many hard core manhua readers were already biased against the drama prior to watching or decided to boycott the drama entirely. It's truly their loss as I really love the story and because of the drama, I'm more interested in the manhua and hope the author can finish it.

Although, TLB might not be highly rated in China but I do think it's successful because many viewers have enjoyed it and many more will as the drama becomes available in other countries. I try not to let subjective ratings and unreasonable fans ruin what is truly an enjoyable story for me. The actors and the production crew did an incredible job and should be proud of their work. Long live TLB!

Thanks for the info. I don't know who Luhan is. Is he a Korean star? Regardless, I just hate how nasty crazy fans are, spewing hate through the computer for no real apparent reason. Those fans need to get a life!

To be honest, reading comments comparing the two couples might unintentionally cause fan wars to arise between actors or fans of the two couples. Since you indicated you thought the love story of the second couple was more well written, why not elaborate on that point? How so? I think that will encourage genuine discussion among fans of the Haoyan rather than incite one fandom to defend one couple versus the either. Just my two cents.

In general, I do think the majority of Haoyan fans are fans of the actors, particularly Lusi since she is popular prior to taking on the role of Leyan. If third or fourth tier actors take on the role of Leyan /Hao Du, would it generate the same amount of buzz for this very tropey love story? IMO, I don't so. I do acknowledge there are exceptions where viewers fall in love this couple not knowing the actors prior to the drama but they are probably in the minority. Likewise, fans of GeSun might be fans of the lead actors too but of the two love stories, I do prefer GeSun story more just because of the how much love Ashile Sun has for Changge and I do love how their love progressed from beginning to end. Regardless, fans' love is subjective and we like who we like. My favorite couple of the drama is GeSun (obviously) and second favorite couple is Shiba and Xu Feng. I wish more scenes were written for this latter couple.

It saddens me to read the amount of unjust hate that Reba and other high profile stars receive. Reba seems to be such a sweet and very down to earth person. So glad to see that she has risen above the pettiness of anti-fans who are trying to tear her down. Jiayou Reba!

I skipped some of their scenes because I got bored with their love story too and they do not impact the main story arc. However, I do recommend watching scenes with Leyan and Changge since I do like their sister relationship.

Very well deserved! She had so many doubters since she took on this role and unjust criticism when the show aired but she slayed the role of Li Changge! I’m glad she’s getting the recognition she deserves.
