This remains an easy watch for me at episode 18, so I was kind of surprised when I read some comments on Min Hui.
I felt like Min Hui’s decision to reject Xin Qi is understandable. She was so ready to give their relationship a chance, but seeing Xin Qi doubt her at the beginning of that episode crashed that hope. Mistakes were made years ago and realizing that their trust for each other hasn’t been completely mended yet was very much valid. And I did not think that it was something to be frustrated about either because the two were able to calmly talk about everything out by that very same episode. She explained her side and showed him where her uneasiness was coming from. It was not a simple case of misunderstanding. Hence, this moment of separation does not feel forced (at least for me) at all.
Min Hui needs time for herself. Again, she was ready to give their relationship a second chance as soon as she woke up. She brought her emotional walls down that day, only to be unjustly accused of after. Remember: two, not just one, people insinuated that she was to blame for Su Tian’s death - when she was just a victim of that accident as well. To be doubted at, to be guilt tripped, and to be reminded of that trauma and heartbreak from five years ago - not a good feeling. No wonder she built her emotional walls back up. Xin Qi definitely needs to prove himself; to reassure her that the past is not a ticking time bomb to their relationship. She said it herself, she doesn’t want the wounds from five years ago to keep opening up again and again. That is beyond her. And that is not selfish.
I was, still am, and will forever be on Team Min Hui. Xin Qi HAS to step it up after the whole lawsuit fiasco.
Two years after Once We Get Married (2021) and I still get amazed with how natural and strong his chemistry with Wang Yuwen is in the Love You Give Me (2023).
STILL AMAZING CHEMISTRY BUT WITH EVEN BETTER ACTING AND CHARACTER DYNAMICS. The drunken confrontation, Wang Yuwen’s cries, the five-year pent up angst - this drama is better than I expected.
The ultimate mind game. One of the rare dramas where I could never predict the motivation or which side the characters are on. Not one, not two, but all three male leads are equally as cunning as each other, each holding significant power in Nanqing wherein their loyalty lies - which makes them more vicious and fearsome because every little thing they do has a purpose, no matter the means.
But then - this drama is so serious and unserious at the same time LOL it has elements of science-fiction and comedy, yet they never felt out of place in the overall tone of the drama because the modern (or mythological) concepts are well incorporated into the story. Bizarre, but very much intriguing. Complex, but brutally brilliant. Highly recommended.
Not as intense as I wanted to be - I wanted more confrontation, more rage, but it did make sense given how the characters work. Each and every one of them, no matter how small the role was, remained consistent until the end. Moon Dong-eun simply set everything up, she did not have to get her hands dirty; it was everyone’s greed and betrayal that brought disaster upon themselves. And they deserved it. The ending they each got was the best ending they could get because dying was the easy way out.
Slow but surely. This was a revenge that had 18 years in the making - and it showed. Brilliant and twisted without ever losing its focus. 9/10.
So much fun! Not one episode where my sister and I was not howling with laughter. Characters, yes the plural form, are unhinged and unpredictable. Tropes and dynamics used kind of reminded me of old school mature romcoms - which I love.
And please, will forever be a fan of female leads who sleep around! Topics of patriarchy and sexism are bound to be brought up and this drama showed the effects of it to an individual, let it be Mi-ran, her mother, or even Choi Soo-jin. I love women, but even more so when women are there for each other - and this drama has plenty of it.
Quick background: The Philippines was colonized by Spain for more than 300 years. Jose Rizal, a National Hero…
My essay on the romance will be on another day. But main takeaway is I love it!
Klay and Fidel will always be special to my heart. Literally enemies to lovers done right - and what makes this so engaging is how their initial fight is rooted with their beliefs, not just some petty fights, misunderstandings, or misconceptions. A man with misogynistic views and a woman with progressive views. Yes, Klay! Educate that man - then bond over your protectiveness for Ibarra!
Fidel’s character development is definitely one thing to write home about.

His character, though. 🥵
So messy and complicated and unfinished—I loved it.
