This show is balanced, we got to see FL's jealousy before the 6 year gap & after. She was amazing. Packed another girl's belongings and settled in the room as if any other female being doesn't even exist. Loved all of MJ's dirty looks to CY anytime he was around another girl. CY had to explain himself on every account 😆 these 2 r a perfect match❣️

Suzy Bae isn't here on the list. The second one can be Kim You Jung. Except for these 2, no one else will look good in the same frame as Zhang Linghe

Casting is strange to me. Nothing against Wang Chu Ran, but she has “I own a 500-year-old castle and survive on human souls” energy. 😂 She’s gorgeous, but her screen aura keeps convincing me she’s the female antagonist. With all the love I have for Zhang Linghe, I'd still have to drop it after 5 episodes.

It also doesn’t help that Chen Yi and Miao Jing were never really taught what a healthy relationship looks like. Neither of them grew up learning how to love without fear, guilt, or sacrifice. They never got to observe the everyday parts of a healthy relationship—working through conflict, offering reassurance, apologizing, being emotionally vulnerable, or simply asking for help. The only genuinely loving relationship they witnessed was the police couple’s… and even that was tragically destroyed by the fire that took away so much six years ago.
When you’ve only ever seen love expressed through sacrifice, it’s no surprise they learned to love each other deeply while struggling to love each other well.

To me, their six-year separation wasn’t because they stopped loving each other. It was because they loved each other in the worst possible way at that point in their lives.

Chen Yi didn’t ask for space—he made the decision for both of them. He severed the relationship and built a wall so high that Miao Jing believed the only way to love him was to respect the choice he had made. That’s why I don’t see her silence as indifference. I see it as honoring the boundary he forced upon her, no matter how much it hurt.

There’s also another layer. Both of them are incredibly stubborn. They’re the kind of people who would rather carry the pain than risk becoming another burden to the person they love. Chen Yi convinced himself that pushing her away was protecting her. Miao Jing convinced herself that letting him go was respecting him.

What’s interesting is that neither of them actually moved on. They simply learned how to function around the absence. That’s why, the moment fate brought them back to the same city, all those carefully built defenses started cracking almost immediately. It doesn’t feel like two exes reconnecting after six years. It feels like two people pressing play on a relationship that neither of them ever truly left emotionally.
I think Miao Jing found a reason to come back under the umbrella of work. But once she saw him again, she stopped pretending that six years had erased what they meant to each other. In fact, she’s the first one to challenge the comfortable lie they’ve both been living—that they can simply coexist as platonic partners.
For me, that’s the tragedy of their story. They lost six years not because their love wasn’t strong enough, but because their love, guilt, and desire to protect each other were stronger than their ability to communicate.

Really? You dislike his jealousy? 😂 I actually find it ridiculously adorable. It’s so refreshing to see this silly, boyish side of him.
Outside of Miao Jing, the man practically walks around playing emotionally dead . She’s the only person who can make him sulk, pout, get possessive, and completely lose his composure.
The best part is that his jealousy isn’t rooted in a lack of trust. He believes in Miao Jing’s love. Deep down, he knows he is the biggest obstacle keeping them apart. But that doesn’t magically switch off his heart. How is he supposed to sit there looking unbothered when the woman he has loved for years is standing next to another man?

Zhang Linghe is the God of screen glue but I'm in a dilemma as I don't enjoy Wang Chun Ran. Nothing against her, somehow she just doesn't attract my attention. May be I will wait till the show is completed & then binge watch.

The reviews are a bit negative because the past isn't shown to full extent. Also because the show doesn't follow the novel but has taken the inspiration from it. No way the leads have a toxic relationship. If anything, their relationship is their whole identity.

Strangely, I’m loving both the measured pace and the angst. The more I watch Chen Yi and Miao Jing, the more convinced I am that their love was never waiting for an official label. It’s the quiet certainty at the core of who they are. They aren’t together yet simply because Chen Yi still has old scars to heal before they can build a future untouched by the past.
The car kiss scene (20/21) captured that perfectly. Chen Yi knew Miao Jing was creating a diversion, yet he never questioned her. Her confidence came from knowing his trust was absolute—as long as she was safe, he'll stand by her.
The beach scenes were equally beautiful, carrying the quiet promise of a love that’s simply waiting for its season. I also loved how openly Miao Jing talks about both their past and present. Relationships can weather almost any storm when the door to communication remains open. Chen Yi’s silence isn’t born of mistrust but of protection; the less she knows about his dangerous world, the safer she remains.
And I loved that she didn’t stop at threatening to leave—she actually did. Whether it was to protect Chen Yi from Zhang Bin’s manipulation or to make her point, coming home to an empty house was exactly the jolt Chen Yi needed. Miao Jing may love him unconditionally, but she won’t let him take that love for granted.
Lastly, I’m glad the drama is unveiling the truth about the fire one drop at a time. Some stories deserve to deepen into an ocean rather than arrive as a flood that leaves nothing more to discover.

Praising one doesn't require insulting others. Ai Mi is awesome in her looks and her talent. What a fine actress!

An actor's age is the age of the character they play. She is so talented why must they limit her to one kind of type.

Started to watch the show recently for Hou Ming Hao but oh my the FL is so cute and equally talented. The leads look amazing together on screen. Loving the pairing. I have never seen Ai Mi's work before so this is so refreshing. Loving every but of it.

You summed it up so well. I think that’s exactly why this drama has resonated with me. The characters feel lived-in, flawed, and believable, so the emotional moments never feel manufactured. The writer gave us people first and drama second, and it makes all the difference.
