You felt the pain & that is exactly the point of the scene. The pain that they both are in. So if you ask me, that scene was fundamental , even though it was painful to watch. MJ wasn’t making CY come to that old factory simply to tell him she hated him. She knew exactly what one phone call from her would do to CY—he would drop anything, even Zhang Bin’s business dinner, and come running if he thought she needed him. And that’s precisely what she needed him to understand.

For six years, CY had convinced himself that his love for MJ meant he had to disappear from her life, that he was somehow unworthy of her and that protecting her meant sacrificing himself. But MJ had already seen the depth of his love. When she was away in another city, it was CY’s money that allowed her to live comfortably, even though he stayed hidden from her life. She knew he was still taking care of her from a distance. So when she says, essentially, “Why wouldn’t your earrings matter?” she’s not really talking about earrings. She’s saying, Why wouldn’t you matter? Why do you keep treating yourself as if you don’t matter to me? If our relation does not matter?

That’s why she brought him back to the place where they first kissed. She was taking him back —to a place where there was no Zhang Bin, no underworld, no guilt, no excuses. Just the two of them and what they had always been to each other.

And then she says she lost something. She isn't really talking about the earrings here. Everything is about their relationship. CY needed that emotional blow that finally cracks CY’s defenses. MJ is forcing him to feel what his decisions have done to her, to them. He spent years deciding for her that she would be better off without him, while never asking whether that was what she actually wanted. She needed him to understand that his self-sacrifice wasn’t noble from her perspective—it was devastating.

The poor man searching through the garbage in the dark and rain is heartbreaking, yes , but that’s also the point. The moment MJ calls, he doesn’t hesitate. He doesn’t care about Zhang Bin’s dinner, the rain, or anything else. He thinks she’s in danger and goes frantic trying to find her. MJ already knows this about him. She isn’t discovering his love in that moment; she’s making him see it.

I think the deeper message of the scene is: You keep believing that I am the precious one whose life must be protected, while you treat yourself as disposable. But why wouldn’t you matter? Why wouldn’t what happens to you matter to me?

MJ was finally fighting against CY’s belief that loving her required him to erase himself. The old factory was where they first found the courage to acknowledge the love for each other, and in a strange, painful way, she was bringing him back there to make him face the fact that she was still choosing him too.
The key to that scene is that MJ wasn’t trying to punish Chen Yi or make him suffer for the sake of it. She was trying to force him to confront something he had spent years refusing to believe: that he mattered to her as much as she mattered to him.

This is such a beautiful reflection. ❤️ I think that’s one of the things this drama does so well—it makes us pause and look beyond the romance and the story itself. It quietly reminds us that the struggles we’re watching on screen are a reality for many people, and that gratitude is something we can so easily lose sight of in our everyday lives.

And I have to give so much credit to Song Weilong for bringing Chen Yi to life with such depth. He made CY’s struggles feel incredibly real and human, which makes those early episodes all the more heartbreaking to watch.

But picking up on paragraph 6, I think there’s another layer to CY’s actions that the drama gradually reveals. He never truly left MJ to fend for herself. He made sure she had the means to live, while also taking responsibility for paying off her mother’s debt. His outward image of a reckless, bad-boy “I don’t care” attitude was, in my view, largely a deliberate attempt to push MJ out of his life. And, of course, we eventually understand why he felt he had to do that.

I think that’s where this drama differs from the usual industry formula. It deliberately withholds crucial pieces of the story, so the audience is meant to see things differently as the truth unfolds. One really need to watch the entire drama to understand the reasoning behind both CY’s and MJ’s choices. It’s difficult to form a complete opinion about their actions until the final episode —and I actually think that’s what makes this story so interesting and different from the standard approach. ( also one small note about early childhood, remember when CY pulled MJ out of the water. She sadly never learned it was him who saved her as he really didn't want to see his caring side. So he never hated her from the start. Only that MJ & CY's parents had a creepy relationship & he even over heard his father talking to MJ's mom before their arrival- yuck)

Not sure which review but nops that is not true. This show is not something that can be abandoned & judged, one has to watch it till the last scene to understand & enjoy the depth of it.

Song Weilong was simply brilliant in Love for You. I loved him in Shine on Me, but this role showed us such a raw, unguarded side of him. There was something so beautifully unpolished about the way he played Chen Yi—the restraint, the silences, the tiny shifts in his expressions that said more than words ever could. He made you feel the weight of Chen Yi’s pain without ever overplaying it, and somehow, even in the most emotionally devastating scenes, he still had you completely captivated.

And then there’s that face. How does he manage to evoke that first-love feeling in you, regardless of your actual age? He could be standing there, absolutely wrecked by life, delivering the most heartbreaking scene imaginable, while your heart is busy melting and you’re apparently 17 again, writing his name on your palm.

Song Weilong had no business making us feel like lovestruck teenagers while Chen Yi was busy suffering on screen. What a performance. What a heartthrob. What a beautiful, quietly devastating portrayal ♥️

Because Chen Yi no longer believes in himself. As a boy, he told Miao Jing there was no need to pray to the statue—they would have a safe, good life because *he* said so. But later, after failing to protect the police officer’s fiancée, he became convinced that the only way to give Miao Jing the better life she deserved was to remove himself from it.

That’s where I think the acting and direction deserve tremendous credit.
The story establishes that they had extraordinary chemistry even as teenagers, yet as adults, Chen Yi deliberately suppresses every bit of it.
Kudos to Song Weilong for portraying that restraint so impeccably.
