Chen Yi & Miao Jing were incredible beings. First Chen Yi saved Tu Li & due to her sick son, let Tu li use his name and to have business advantage. Secondly for all the plotting Tu Li did against Miao Jing even though the man clearly told Tu Li he doesn't see her as a love interest neither is he interested in becoming the child's father, Tu Li still went after Miao Jing though Chen Yi didn't approve of her behavior. After all that Miao Jing didn't once hesitate to free Tu Li from the sticky situation and saved her. If anything, Tu Li should be happy to have the most advantageous relationship with Chen Yi & Miao Jing.
The ones who take up residence in our hearts makes it so hard to move on. I am hooked on Chen Yi's love for Jing.…
Oh yes!! That Episode 31 moment was absolutely breathtaking. The way Chen Yi broke free to get to her really did look like he had suddenly gained superpowers! And then those two being pushed toward separate ambulances, desperately trying to tell each other āI love youā ā¦ my heart! š
But what makes it even more swoon-worthy is how consistent Chen Yi is about Miao Jing. Itās not just one heroic moment.
Remember Episode 17, when Miao Jing was attacked and Chen Yi was badly injured saving her? This man had just been beaten up, and what was he doing? Complaining that after all that education, why on earth did she choose a career that put her in danger! š He was so angry, frustrated, and heartbroken. At one point, he was almost in tears asking her why she had come back to ārotā with him.
Sirā¦ did you forget that YOU were the one who just got beaten up?! šš
Thatās why I loved Miao Jingās response. She reminded him that his life wasnāt over. His career wasnāt over. And neither was his life with her. She had come back because she considered him her home.
Chen Yi will risk his life to save Miao Jing, but Miao Jing does something just as importantāshe reminds Chen Yi that his own life is worth saving too. ā¤ļø

Think about the freedom he had: he owned the home they shared, no one else was there, and Miao Jingās devotion to him was unquestionable. Yet he never crossed that line. She was too precious to him to risk hurting or losing. The āoffishā feeling you get is partly him. He treats her like something so precious that he is afraid to touch it carelessly.
Their relationship also doesnāt develop in the conventional way because these two have never had a healthy relationship modeled for them. They were thrown together young, carrying scars and having to figure out life on their own. And yet, somehow, they developed something incredibly rare: an unwavering belief in each other. Their depth is there, but itās often hidden in the silences, the restraint, and the things they do for each other without ever saying them aloud.
I also think the āsheās treated like sheās twoā feeling is intentional. Itās not that Chen Yi sees her as incapable. Quite the opposite. Miao Jing is the one person he treasures so deeply that his instinct is to protect her from every possible hurt. She is also the person who slowly forces him to see that he deserves a life beyond merely surviving.
As for Never Ending Summer, I agree that it has a very fluid momentum and is easy to watch. But personally, I struggle when the leads become each otherās source of pain. Give me all the hardships in the world, but let the leads be each otherās shield. Let them fight the world together rather than fight each other.
And I think thatās one of the things I love most about Chen Yi and Miao Jing. They may not always know how to express their love, but they never stop choosing each other.

But when Miao Jing made it clear that she had never looked down upon his pool hall and wanted nothing more than a simple, sweet life with him, something in him finally shifted.
That back hug felt like a turning point. Almost as if he had finally decided to stop running from what he felt. And then, there he was, carefully gathering those scattered drops of mercury and making them whole again.
