A small appreciation post for the two people who made Chen Yi and Miao Jing impossible to look away from. ❤️ I started this drama for Song Weilong’s face card—those expressive eyes, that devastating smile, and lips with a curve that could probably launch arrows. 😍 But then he was paired with Zhang Jingyi, whose acting has this extraordinary ability to create tension without ever making it feel forced. She can look at him with such confidence and quiet certainty that the message is practically: I want you, I know you want me, and yes, I am still very much in charge here. 😂 Put two actors together who are this beautiful, this emotionally expressive, and this completely at ease with each other’s presence, and the chemistry was always going to be dangerous. Their attraction feels instinctive, but what makes it truly irresistible is the tenderness underneath it—the heat in their glances, the familiarity in their touch, the longing that six years could never extinguish. So yes, I came for Song Weilong’s aura. I stayed for Chen Yi and Miao Jing. And somewhere along the way, these two completely recalibrated my standards for onscreen chemistry. 🔥❤️

I don’t think there was one single scene that explicitly said, “MJ stayed away for six years out of respect for CY’s wishes.” It was more in the way her character behaved and in the small things she said throughout the drama.
When MJ returned to the house after six years and CY asked, “Why are you here?” her answer was simply, “This is my home. Where else would I be?” That line, to me, revealed so much about how she had always viewed their relationship. Six years of physical separation had never changed where she considered home to be. Just because someone leaves a place doesn’t mean that place stops being home. Home is where the heart is—and MJ’s heart had never really left CY.
I also don’t think MJ stayed away because she had moved on or because she was indifferent. My interpretation was that CY had asked her to go, educate herself, and become someone who could have a better life. So she did exactly that. She didn’t return until she had achieved what he had wanted for her. In her mind, perhaps she wasn’t abandoning their story; she was simply waiting until she could return as the person CY had sacrificed everything to give her the chance to become.
And when she finally came back, I think she came with a purpose beyond her career. She deliberately immersed herself in the auditing work that eventually helped bring down the very people who had destroyed CY’s life. In her own way, she was now trying to protect the person who had spent his entire life protecting her.
Then there was that line to the police officer when CY was going in and out of psychiatric treatment: “I’ve already given him six years.” That was probably the clearest indication to me that MJ had respected his choice for six years—but that her heart was no longer willing to remain silent. She had given him the time and space he demanded. She had lived the life he wanted her to live. But six years was enough. She could respect his decision without surrendering the rest of her life to it.
And now, after the finale, I think we can look back and see that MJ’s feelings were never really ambiguous at all. She eventually tells CY plainly that she came back for him and that she didn’t want a life with anyone else. Everything we saw before that was simply MJ expressing the same truth in the language she knew best—through her choices, her persistence, and her actions rather than emotional declarations.
So yes, my original reading was an interpretation based on the clues the drama gave us. But after seeing the ending, I feel even more certain that MJ never truly moved on from CY. She respected the separation, but she never accepted it as the end of their story.

Oh my… the drama ended, and for once, I have absolutely no complaints. 🥹 What a complete, exquisite journey Chen Yi and Miao Jing have taken us on. I would say a solid 12 out of 10🤣 Chen Yi spent his life being MJ’s savior, fighting the whole world to protect her. And in the end, MJ became his savior, rescuing him from the darkness within himself. The life Chen Yi had convinced himself no longer mattered, she quietly breathed life back into. Their love was never about one person saving the other—it was about two people, after years of losing everything, finally learning how to save each other. The writers did a phenomenal job of closing every loose end. Chen Yi’s innocence in the fire six years ago, his capture and eventual descent into the underworld—it was all revealed with such care that nothing was left dangling or left me wishing for answers. I genuinely didn’t know a modern drama could deliver something this complete and this beautiful. And perhaps the most tender part was watching them finally have the life they had spent years longing for, yet still feeling as though it couldn’t possibly be real. MJ lying awake at night, wondering if she had somehow hit the jackpot, unable to comprehend how two people who had survived so much chaos had finally been granted such ordinary happiness… it was impossibly sweet. And then Chen Yi telling her that he endured all those beatings and survived their years of separation only so he could hold her forever? My heart simply gave up. 🥹
And then there are those faces, the kisses, the hugs, the longing, the tenderness, and those dangerously romantic lines… honestly, what more could a viewer ask for? You want to melt into their love and feel every ounce of the passion, yearning, tenderness, and deep contentment they finally found in each other.
But alas, we must respect their privacy and refrain from becoming the third wheel. 🤭❤️

This show is balanced, we got to see FL's jealousy before the 6 year gap & after. She was amazing. Casting is strange to me. Nothing against Wang Chu Ran, but she has “I own a 500-year-old castle and survive on human souls” energy. 😂 She’s gorgeous, but her screen aura keeps convincing me she’s the female antagonist.
