We need to understand how she grew up.when she met ZSC she’s almost marriageable.
So her values will not change that easily. She definitely will be a damsel in distress. I think the point of the story is to understand their decisions. Just like ZSC, he is capable to get his love but he chose not to for the sake of the peace in their country.

There’s a little hint of romance but you will forget it because of the magnificent plot..
