Gave the show a chance to ep 10 but the moment he shouted at her when she was trying to help him clean his face (why even, he's a grown man), I noped the hell out of the show. I enjoy my corny 霸道总裁/arrogant male lead dynamics but bro, this ain't it. Luckily CXX has another drama airing tomorrow bc this man is my type of eye candy.
This is one of those naturalistic, slice-of-life dramas which will not have mass entertainment appeal, but hits hard if you relate to one (or several) of the characters.
Being set in modern China limits the show's relatability for international audiences, especially when it comes to marital pressures, but the frustation of interpersonal relations (between lovers, friends, family, colleagues) are universal. Credits to the acting for not making it feel like a caricature or letting it veer into makjang territory.
Not a light-hearted watch, but the pacing is done well enough such that it doesn't feel overly draggy.
Not every character's ending is what I would want for them personally, but in that context and with their personality, I get it. I've actually seen the same in real life.
I appreciate that we're seeing more experimentation with Chinese scripts and more non-romance idol dramas being featured on major platforms. The 2 main male leads definitely carried their roles well, but the character Angelica seems very extra - I skipped over most her scenes. Many flaws with the writing and editing, but overall a good effort, especially considering that this was a gamble from the production team who didn't even know if it'll pass censorship/get licensed
Lordy why did they have to make the FL so airheaded. She's a lawyer for goodness' sake, but being portrayed like a spineless debtor. Did she skip every lecture on labour law or what? 6 episodes in and overall still fairly entertaining if you can accept a 小白甜 and glaze over the workplace/law industry bugs. Chen Xingxu is good-looking enough to motivate me to give the next few eps a go.
