It was a huge and rapid decline, IMF injected $56B but many large "crony companies" went under. Surviving companies stopped hiring.
I quote one of the characters seeking $$$ from him: Chairman Baek's precious son is living in a tiny room.
His immediate family was broken up. I don't know what other kind of situation would signify "hostile environment."
Famine, pandemic, nuclear disaster or war would be worse. This was pretty bad or else it wouldn't be remembered as a crisis with its own name 25 years later.
Yi Jin keeps drawing a line between him and Hee Do, "high schoolers date high schoolers and adults data adults"…
Baek Yi Jin (my poor puppy) went from popular top HS student, engineering major mustang driving chaebol-son to working various poorly paying part-time jobs to get by. He is hounded by other people looking for money; when he tries to get a slightly better job he is over-qualified.
He is very young but has had to grow up in a fairly hostile world. In the real world by the time the general economy recovers he will be viewed as an under-qualified dinosaur at age 35 (no exp. no degree, no adv degree). We'll see where the script takes us!
It's 2022. Why do writers still create these quirky, highly animated, always-screaming, caricature-ish female…
kids act in all kinds of ways; that's why I want to instinctively yell "Get off my lawn!" when I see teenagers. They're not really doing anything wrong except 5 of their friends showed up and have taken all the free parking places. It would never occur to them that there are other people.
You know stuff like that; I find the Hee Do character endearing and the actress is amazing to carry it off like that in a physical way.
in my quest for fluffy carefree romcoms this was a discovery. Sageuks like King's Affection and School 2021 have been doing the heavy lifting of keeping me entertained but this was very good. Objectively it should get a 7.0 because it is pretty formulaic but for short and sweet and to the point 8.5.
Please SK entertainment industry can you crank out more romcoms? Too many horror, melo and historic products being produced; kind of a bummer.
ep. 9-12 were way better when finally all the documentary stuff ended (filler); and we got more revelation of their past lives. Maybe that's why ratings are going up? I would give it a 8.75!
I was looking for something cute and fluffy; also watching School 2021, but I couldn't watch this past ep. 2. Even that was hard. I may pick it up as filler when there is NOTHING to watch.
