Those “propeller” hats are a type of fútóu (幞头)—a formal head covering worn by officials, especially…
Wow, today I wrote jokingly for that hat 'historically the first attempt at maintaining social distancing' and someone said 'Yes, to prevent gossip...' So it was true 😃 I just took it as another humorous comment. Anyway, since the facts speak, I'll silence my fantasy world. Thanks for the info.
But admit it, my version isn't bad either :)

Acording the rumors, this hat originated as a self-defense tactic designed by a security-obsessed, paranoid minister…
These days, this hat has gained a new name beyond "Noble Loyal Minister's Hat" due to its negative visual impact in the popular TV series in which it was used, and has been nicknamed "The Charisma Eater Hat" by viewers.
So that, the visual impact of this hat even could diminished ML's charisma, which had made him stand out throughout the series, leading viewers to complain "He was more charismatic even when buried in the snow than he was in this hat." etc.

Title Pursuit of Jade Spoiler
Ok. Today we were trying to solve the mystery of why they made these ministerial hats this way (so long and dangerous…
Acording the rumors, this hat originated as a self-defense tactic designed by a security-obsessed, paranoid minister after sleepless nights, due to his insecurity at not being able to bring a weapon into the palace.
He thought 'I need something simple, inconspicuous, yet effective that I can smuggle into the palace, and everyone should have it so that no one notices my secret intentions and uses my fear against me.'
When he took his sketch to the palace tailor responsible for designing the ministers' uniforms, even though the tailor pleaded with him saying "Please, Minister. Don't... If we dress our ministers wih this, we'll become a laughingstock to our enemies," he convinced him by threatening to kill his child. However, getting the emperor and the entire ministry to accept it wouldn't so simple. To do this, he had to pay a substantial bribe to the palace medium to prophecy a new hat design that would create personal distance between individuals as a palace precaution against the epidemic that broke out that year, and to convince everyone.
While the ministers though strange, accepted this as a compulsory and started using it, he was secretly training himself at home, practicing gouging out eyes with a hat, and developing defense and attack tactics with it.
It's said that, therefore at least 5 servants of him were blinded, and the minister achieved a level of professionalism that allowed him to cut off someone who entered his personal space using his 'rapid head-turning tactic'. The tragic part is, while trying to upgrade his A-level skill, which he achieved through 5 months of rigorous training, to S level (the ability to decapitate someone within range), he died after breaking his neck with a reverse movement.
And the tragicomic part is that, cause when his body was found he was still wearing his ministerial hat even at his home , his fame spread as a minister deeply devoted to his duty and state, and he became the first honored with the title of 'Noble Loyal Minister'.
It is said that this fact remained in the dark until two centuries later when the tailor's buried diaries were discovered. The ironic part is that the diary pages were placed right next to the display case in The Palace Museum of that day, where the "Noble Loyal Minister's Hat" is exhibited.

I was constantly looking out if both sides were balanced. 🤣🤣
😆 Glad you found a point to focus your attention on, cause whenever that hats appear I've struggled to take serious political dialogues and characters seriously :D If a head turn away suddenly, will gouge out the other's eyes. A "come closer and die" kind of equipment 😂

I'm in ep 20 and don't understand the logic behind this whole "shadow puppet will grow stronger over time,…
As the other friend explained, if this thing should not remain in the system for a long time, the emperor cannot be made a lifelong puppet, perhaps the empress is unaware of this part.

If that's the case, it's understandable. But then, the empress's passion for turning the emperor into a puppet is either meaningless or she is unaware of this aspect of the matter.

Title Shadow Love Spoiler
Can anyone explain?
I'm in ep 20 and don't understand the logic behind this whole "shadow puppet will grow stronger over time, lose control, and harm its owner" thing. Isn't that 'jade thing' something you want to use to make people obey you in the first place? Why would I want a power that could eventually harm or even kill me? So, no one would want to use it, create a puppet, and become its blood lord. Or is this a side effect specific to ML, who is normally a powerful person, and who gained more power than he should when he acquired this? But MY explained it as if it's not a specific situation for him, but the general nature of this. It feels like DEM suddenly popped up just to create drama and obstacles in the story. So I'm wondering if I'm missing something.
