Maybe my expectations are too high when it comes to Japanese BLs, because there have been some really beautiful…
Because it is. Old-Fashioned Cupcake has a unique, underlying existential theme (getting older and wondering what it's all about), His captured both the coming-of-age first love and then adult social-challenge storylines beautifully in the series and film, and this is just... reheated sameness.

Title Step for You
Found Lee Kang San's acting unwatchable (that scream though...), and his cuter costar's only a bit better. Kind of disappointing for the generally decent Strongberry.

I can watch it fine on Viki - maybe change VPN to Australia?
Nothing seems to be working. Where is Viki actually available? So strange that it's not available here in Taiwan. Basically, whenever I use countries that should have it, it only lets me select the first episode. Has nowhere else uploaded it?

Can't seem to find episode 3 anywhere. When I try Viki with VPN, it only shows first episode, and the "Episodes" section shows 0. What gives?

I understand what you mean , not all characters are perfect and flawed characters are more interesting but I think…
To each their own, I suppose. I find the airbrushed, fairytale characters far less compelling, likable, and memorable than ones like Ji Woo, who feels real (and, to me at least, infinitely more likable). Also, I'm not bored by this series. Every moment matters, and each one's import for my actual life is far greater too.

Nah, he just went too far. But I think we will get an explanation sooner or later. That said, I also like this…
Yes! Even Italian grandmas make their own pasta from scratch. You're against changing the menu but are serving pre-made pasta? Get your priorities straight, you adorable icicle!

Honestly, it's quite refreshing to have a BL take a more realistic approach to relationships and people. There…
Yeah, it reminds me a bit of his - I didn't think I'd fall in love and His (the confusingly named sequel), which were really sensitively made queer coming-of-age and post-breakup stories too. This one getting into the weeds of real, messy life and love is refreshing to me. Personally, I find stories like this much more moving and useful in my life than pure fluff.

I really don't know what to think about this anymore. Sometimes people hurt others without being aware of it.…
Except breaking up suddenly, or being a less expressive person by nature (or nurture), isn't abuse. But yes, it seems like the series is sort of exploring his background to help humanize and contextualize him and his actions slowly.

The only thing I dislike about him is that he gets all touchy about his Italian culinary training and then... uses boxed pasta??? Most unrealistic/unlikable thing about him frankly.

I really love this season so far, even more than the first one. Real humans dealing with a failed relationship,…
Do love the line, referring to a script: “It’s much better now that the main characters are on good terms.” The writer knows what they’re doing, and it’s not pandering.
I really love this season so far, even more than the first one. Real humans dealing with a failed relationship, contradictory feelings, and their own demons. Nice not to feel lied to. There’s no disputing taste, but I humbly suggest that, if you can only love impossibly good characters and people, you don’t really know much about love. I like both the protagonists, probably Ji Woo more so (and more now than before even), and I don’t get the lack of compassion toward him. Oh, well.

The Japanese title is Ourudo Fasshon Kappukeiki aka Old Fashion Cupcake without the [ed]. It's common practice…
Yeah, that's because the corrupted form made its way into Japanese, likely because its components ("old," "fashion") are more familiar and easier to say, and the average Japanese speaker is probably less aware of English adjectival rules.

It's the same in Chinese, which I have more familiarity with: often, English words are adopted and used in very different ways and forms than they are in English (which is perfectly fine and inevitable), so much so that if I wanted to translate a sentence with one back into English, I'd have to pick an entirely different word or phrase to convey the meaning taken on by this loan word.

That's just how translation works. Japanese speakers, understandably, picked a form that made sense to them. But a translator's job is to translate something back into English that is correct, resonant, etc., not to just hyper-literally churn out things Google Translate style. (This is how we get those hilarious, tragicomic, and off-putting "Super Happy Magic Time"-type titles that so long kept people away from Japanese cultural and artistic products, even if this is much less drastic.)

Really loving this so far.

(That said, it should be "Old-Fashioned Cupcake," not "Old Fashion [???] Cupcake." Not sure who fumbled there...)
