is it more fun to start watching the first seasons before this one? or does it not really matter?
hi! i've watched up to episode 4 and there is very-little-to-none requirement to watch the previous season. there is very little reference to previous season (and even if you don't know it, it won't make any difference).
however, if you want to get familiar with the format and/or getting familiar with the regular casts (as this season's regular casts are all assembled from previous seasons), you may want to watch the previous seasons! will watching the previous seasons make the watching experience for this season better? with the perspective of long-time watcher, i will say yes for this - as this season is like the 'biggest' season for the series and there is this sense of 'wow!' when watching how much the series have upgraded ^^) but once again, there is very little-to-none 'pressure' to watch the previous seasons beside for the reasons i mentioned earlier.
imo, it's possible to skip over since there was a summary given about what happened on season 3 on episode 1 of this season and this season is completely starting over with a new partner too.
thank you so much for this article - love to see more people writing and covering the crime/thriller kdramas! <3
from this list, missing noir m is my all-time favorite - everything about this drama is somehow like really click to me: the story, the mood, the characters, and even the message they are trying to convey. if you haven't seen it, you definitely should watch it. also: if you really in the mood for thrillers or darker dramas, OCN is a go-to channel for that.
signal and children of nobody are definitely another must-watch, but definitely be careful, especially for children of nobody since it can be hard to watch at some times. the mood of children of nobody is really heavy from the beginning to end, but it can be a fun whoddunit-story for you who enjoy theorizing while watching a drama.
voice.... i'm not really a big fan for season 1, i prefer for season 2 since i feel like they actually more utilizing their actual lead rather than in season 1 and the villain in season 2 (bang je-su) is honestly more interesting than mo tae-gu story-wise, in my opinion. but, afterall, rather than the story, voice's greatest strength is somehow in their villains? i don't know why, but i feel like i watch voice because i just want to see the villains :")
i wish there'll be a part two of this writing soon, can't wait to see that! <3
this is such a well-written articles and those graphics? superb!
i really enjoyed this drama and in fact, this was the drama i anticipated the most on the wed/thu time slot.
baek jin-sang and lee ru-da are definitely my favorite characters on the series... but it's definitely baek jin-sang that really stole my heart. the development of his character is amazing, the writer developed him slowly - he didn't change overnight and completely into a 'brand new person'... roughly, he just turned into 'a better version of baek jin-sang' not 'brand new baek jin-sang' and that's what happened in real life: we don't instantly change, we learn everyday from our mistakes and thus, it makes us into a better version of ourselves. also not to mention that he has a lot of relatable moments....
i truly wish they could develop lee ru-da as good as baek jin-sang tho? she was so well-written on the beginning, but the more the story progressed, she didn't 'stand out' as much as she was in the beginning... and also yoo shi-baek! i also like her character and when i learnt the reason she acted like that..... what a pity. she definitely had such an interesting story to be told (especially because this drama explored about gender roles on workplace)
there are so many unexplored story in this drama, but overall, i still enjoy it. it's surprisingly become one of my favorite drama this year <3
Why are so many of people comparing it to The Guest? Aren't they different stories? I plan to watch The Guest…
the comparison is sadly, inevitable. Priest and The Guest have the same theme: exorcism, both of them are aired by OCN and why the comparison is even more inevitable is because The Guest just finished airing at the beginning of this november - so people, especially for those who watched it while it aired, still remembered it really clearly (the gap between the two are too short).
they may have the same genre, but they have different stories to tell and also different style of telling their stories. don't worry if you haven't watched The Guest right now, Priest has different story from it X)
I love this drama because it's really weird and also for that complicated story, ha! The level of complexity in the story is really pulling me because it feels like you're currently solving a puzzle and when you get it right - it's really satisfying. All the hints are out there, but it all depends on you whether you caught it or not. And to be honest, the story is really, really complicated (this is both the strength and the weakness of the drama, imo) and it's not helping because the drama doesn't feel like it will help to remind you. It's easy to get lost.
On the brighter side, the characters - Black and Ha-ram are seriously fun to be seen and I really like to see them together. I agree with you, Ha-ram is really likeable! She struggles a lot, but still choosing to help people although it's difficult to do and also her fangirl side, dang, everyone should see it. While, Black... I won't say about it but he is definitely one kind of a character~ (still missing Moo-gang tho :'c)
Just finished ep 1 and found it kind of slow but does it get better? I want to see more of the clones
definitely! but tbh, please be patient since the plot is kinda slow too and you'll definitely see more of them if you have passed the first two episodes.
what an interesting post! i am not really into checking the covers since i'm more into checking the synopsis and trailer of a drama X) and i should say, the choices you showed were so good! i never saw most of them before and they were so pretty * v *)
i don't really have favorites, though. but there were some that instantly popped in my mind after I finished reading this since they have interesting covers, like Queen In-Hyun's Man and W-Two Worlds (those two had similar style! - and written by the same writer too~), Signal, soon-to-air Duel, Gapdong, and Goblin! they are looking so cool and simple at the same time X)
THANK YOU FOR MENTIONING MISSING NOIR M! it's definitely one of the m u s t watch if you start liking ocn's dramas. It's my #1 favorite T__T and for anyone who haven't watched it, you better watch that drama and also be careful since it's quite... 'harsh' and dark, tbh. That's the only warning I can say for anyone who's interested to watch that drama :-)
And also, the other title that should be on the list:
-Vampire Prosecutor (Vampire Detective is the spinoff of this drama :D)
-God's Quiz (and it has 4 seasons! fyi, it's the drama with the longest season in ocn.)
-TEN (I haven't watched it, but from what I've heard: it won't be disappointing T v T)
-Bad Guys (written by the same writer who wrote 38! if you had seen 38 until the end, you will realize this thing XD)
my other recommendation will be Dr. Frost or Cheoyong, compared to the titles that are listed above or I mentioned before ^, they are lighter (?) but also still as interesting as the other :D My Beautiful Bride is also good! it's more into action than procedural, though, but it's also cool T v T
if you haven't watched ocn's dramas, you should really watch it now. they're really worth the time and oddly fun XD
Cha Seung In & Jung Hye In at the ending. what is going on?!? :O i love Ji Hyun Woo character. he is such a versatile…
there are two possibilities and let's try to guess:
they were actually the ones who have planned to kidnap lee ji-eun or ji-eun's kidnapping was really out of hye-in's knowing. (but I lean more to the first one.)
the ending is quite ambiguous because it's not easy to decipher the expression of this drama's characters, especially the main ones. but, the previous scenes can be used (?) as clues to decipher this scene:
1. bo-yeon got a note from soo-hyun to be given to seung-in.
2. there was a scene where seung-in found some book labelled with 'sg group' at ji-eun's house.
3. hye-in got a call from seung-in, they were shown to talk something at the car. (I suppose, exchanging the information that will lead to ji-eun's kidnapping?)
I got a little suspicious of Cha Seung In when he told Hye In that she can't trust anyone but him. I know it kinda…
same here! I also had the same suspicion about him on the early episodes, but it just somehow dropped because the more they solved the mission, the more I got impression that it was impossible for him to do it, I continuously get the impression that his action is purely for the safety of Hyun-woo and Hye-in. but, if you had watched episode 7, maybe you'll start to get suspicious of him again because when the team was changed, he insisted to stay to work with the broadcast team under the reason that the broadcast team can't solve the mission by themselves and Hye-in is isolated (she can't believe at her husband, her manager, and the broadcast team)
but one thing that I am sure, you can't fully believe at everyone else except Hye-in. ughTT
Should I watch this? Tell me your opinion please :D
please try it! especially if you like thriller/mystery genre, this is a good choice :D
this drama will need you to pay attention to each scenes and the characters, so it will be quite challenging to watch this but because of that, i find myself enjoying each episodes of it! ^^
This sounds interesting! But according to the mydramlist page "Vampire Prosecutor" is the parent story…
I recommend to watch both season of Vampire Prosecutor (1-2) first because there are some references in the Vampire Detective that make sense if you watch the original series first ^^ (and I also get the 'vibe' that Vampire Detective happen in the same 'universe' but occur after the events in Vampire Prosecutor)
Thanks for making this! I really waited for a stalker's guide of him XD
I haven't watched most of the titles that you mentioned above, but my favorite project of him will be Misaeng and his appearance of Missing Noir M. I couldn't describe how amazing he portrayed his character on those two titlesT__T ((and I wish he can get more recognition, he really worth it ;;;;))
and also looking forward for Moon Lovers, anyway<3
