I have rewatched this drama last night - in one sitting with no sleep and all I can say is that:
1. The acting is still superb
2. They do not make them like this anymore - people living in poverty, showing how money rules the decisions of MANY in the society, how people who are not in the upper class live and manage on a daily. Even tho its a melodrama, the setting is realistic and believable and the characters act like people who would be faced with these circumstances. The life in modern kdramas either prises or punishes for certain choices - there is always a villain or a good guy to compare him to - NOT here. Here we have people and their choices, sometimes good, sometimes morally questionable. They do not judge - but want you to do so and make your own decision. Who is right - who is wrong - do you even have a right to judge this? It shows you how certain choices can have domino effect on things and people - how easy it is to ruin ourselves and others. How much of an impact tragedy has on people. How some do not have choices at all in life - faced with obligation and duty and how much it costs them to go against them.
3. It broke my heart even more then the 1st time I saw it all those years ago
All in all - it aged well and I do recommend this to all people out there !!
Perfect example of delivering an AMAZING episode before the finale and then NOT delivering the ending.... you build me up to 10/10 to crash to a weak 8 - felt like ep 11 and 12 were from different dramas tbh....
I cannot express the strength with which I regret the time wasted on this show. This show started promising but: - the writing was sloppy and FULL of plot holes - and I usually do not even notice those so belive me they are so in your face it's crazy!! - the main ship cannot act - no - Pond was doing slightly better but still boys please I was in pain watching you TRY - the kissing - omg wtf was that? Phuwin was sucking his lips in like his life depended on it and Pond was kissing all around that trying to make it look good - and failing
Sadly I will NEVER regain the time lost in the vortex of Never Let Me Go - but I will remove it from my memory by tomorrow and hopefully NEVER hear about it again!!
This movie will go over not understood by those not able to relate to themes of deep poverty, injustice and discriminatory socio-cultural constructs. Its also reflective of the South Korean society and its issues. Watch it, think about everything and if you still do not get it - watch it again and study about the country it came from. Maybe then you will get a better understanding of this movie....
