I liked the drama overall but wished the ending was different. FL imagined the ML brushing her hair, so him riding his horse towards her at the end also seems to be just an illusion... especially with him wearing a red gown riding a white horse which looks very fantasized. 40.5 feels (and sounds) very fake, like they made it at the last minute, so viewers don't riot. Makes it hard to accept or believe imo.
Xue FangFei calling Shen Yurong a mean and pathetic man. That must have cut deep for him.I feel bad for Shen Yurong…
First of all, the man was already beaten to death. But let's say he is still alive. You say Shen Yurong could've done this and that, but did you ever consider the consequences & outcome? He catches the man who was in bed with his wife. Then what? Make the man confess that it's his mother & sister who set them up, which will inevitably kill or at least ruin their lives? Do you expect SYR to do that to his mom and sister? Ok, let's say he did exactly that. The Princess still wants his wife dead. She will just find another way to kill her. So now he loses not only his wife, but also his sister and mother as well.
I have to redirect your question back at you. Do you really believe in what you're saying?!
Is that what he was doing? I thought he wasn't happy about the use of "pawns" where Jiang Li was concerned. I…
Seems like it. The only thing the emperor said was "Wanning didn't expect a Jiang Li to appear and kill off all her pawns". He didn't call Jiang Li a pawn, so I don't think that was what made the duke unhappy.
Ep 28 had to be one of the best episodes yet... I rarely cry from cdramas but I did this time. The duke looking sad at the end while talking to the emperor, basically acknowledging Tong Er's death, was just perfect.
he still literally dug a grave and put his wife in, burying her alive. he deserves whatever the plot has ready…
It would be silly to think the princess didn't send spies to monitor him. Do you think the princess simply took his word for it when he said he completed the task of killing the FL? Of course not. Her spies told her he buried the FL. You cannot just pack up & escape from someone that even the Emperor is a bit afraid of.

Would he really? At that point she'd be accused of murdering the Grand Preceptor's real daughter to take her place and have no way to explain herself. None of her accusations towards Shen Yurong would work, especially with the Princess backing him up.
Even if he wasn't part of the setup he knew about it and could have stopped it but didn't LOL
I don't think he knew. It was only after it already happened that we get the scene where his mother says "Yes, I set everything up under the princess's orders. Now go kill her".

Spoiler tag is there for a reason, people. Use it. 🙄

Give me a realistic way he could've cleared her name.
