Shiono's face has grown on me, i didnt find him captivating at all in the first ep but now i find him more and more handsome. i dont know if this was intentional, but it almost feels as though im experiencing what Takoi feels as he starts to accept his attraction to him
I remember from an interview with Jackie Chan (or Michelle Yeoh) that back when they were shooting martial arts…
its stated outright in the novel, but the movie production company is also a front for money laundering, so the movie doesnt have to be good or do crazy numbers, it jjust has to exist so they can fudge the numbers to hide their real income source
i had a look at your lists and noticed you loved semantic error and see your love - to me this drama is very similar…
100%, the mafia plotline in that show was a bit silly, but it totally made up for it everywhere else. i will say im coming at this from the perspective of someone who enjoys MND, i found it so charming once it hit its stride, but i also totally see your perspective, no pressure if you dont feel up to watching it! no show will be for everyone, you know?
Boring, fluffy, perfect fantasy for Western fujoshis who love watching fake, conflict and tension-free, Teddy…
i had a look at your lists and noticed you loved semantic error and see your love - to me this drama is very similar in tone to those two, it starts a bit slower, but overall its a feel-good show with a disabled/autistic-coded main character with good communication between the main couple, id love to hear your comparison between these shows and what you felt worked in SE and SYL and what didnt work in MND. personally my biggest gripe was the VERY slow beginning, which is resolved by episode 3 when God and Diew start interacting more; and the treatment of the turtle, which i kinda just have to block out haha. not looking to argue or troll, just wanting to have a genuine conversation about media
Saying Wang Xing Yue's acting is lacking IS nonsenceππππ
if he wasnt handsome he wouldnt have a career, his acting is VERY wooden - he has the same facial expression in pretty much every scene. hes pretty, thats it.
On the recent Desire 4 livestream, Jiang Heng (Shen Wen Lang) said that he added his own taste to the character…
the novel character is SO TOXIC but like. in a "idk what feelings are where is gao tu why do i feel bad when he's not around" kind of way. like hes a moron, he's awful, i kinda love him
"Pregnant men?" You're renaming women and calling it different or worldbuilding
no, they're very clearly defined, with internal rules for the universe, with their origins being in fantasy werewolf fiction, they arent human, its fantasy, but they still can be used to reflect human ideas and desires. as to your point about harmful societal constructs - the very first omegaverse fic featured trope subversion, with an omega fighting back against society's expectations of them. this show is a trope subversion, with an omega disguising themselves as a beta to avoid discrimination - it's a commentary on sexism using omegas as a literary device. again, censoring queer or strange media is something very strongly aligned with a certain political movement that is surging now and had a big uptick in 1940s germany, id be careful spouting these ideas around people who are more politically aware than you are, you might be mistaken for someone you're not.
"Pregnant men?" You're renaming women and calling it different or worldbuilding
its a well-established trope in fanfiction, it even has its own wikipedia page (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Omegaverse). its not just about getting men pregnant, any sex can be any designation (female alphas, male omegas, female omegas, male alphas, beta anything), its a fun way to explore what life would be like if being male or female wasn't the only thing that determined reproduction. just because it doesnt align with your personal worldview doesnt mean its inherently bad or wrong, and certainly doesnt mean it should be censored or destroyed - there are unfortunate historical parallels with a certain political movement wrt burning media that covers queer topics that i wouldnt be comfortable spouting the ideology of if i were you
"Pregnant men?" You're renaming women and calling it different or worldbuilding
babe this is omegaverse, they're literally men getting pregnant. they have secondary genders outside of being men that have nothing to do with being male or female, gtfo with that transphobia
So far, it's a bland C-drama, with a bland character. It's nothing I haven't seen before. LOL.
i'm enjoying it, i wonder if you could recommend more of these types of dramas/characters? id love to watch more, and you seem very knowledgable in the genre!
