Seems they cut off modern part of Donghua. So that's a huge changes but modern part in Donghua mostly just gags and random story that somehow " interwined" to later arc.

They put a break on harem genre. Back than, there were hundred of harem dramas and drama needs to become more and more toxic to get attention from a viewer. Only several harem dramas are good but the rest become crappy and exploitative.
Harem still exist but it is not toxic crap like it was. It just nuisance/background story instead focus of the story. Now it is more about genuine relationship than crazy backstabbing, bully and crazy sociopath woman.
