Great message but delivery wasn't always there.

I enjoyed the show which is why I rated it quite high but I found the storyline a bit all over the place with no real depth.
I loved the message of personality over looks, which can be shown in not only the main leads storylines but with all the characters. The "pretty people" were not all horrible and vain, while the "ugly/inadequate" were not all humble and nice. You were given a full variety of characters which made you really enjoy learning about their personality behind the "face value".

Though I will say I felt a bit disappointed with the main leads since while i did understand why they were both reserved, i was expecting their true personalities to be shown a bit earlier. I also expected more give and take between them, while it seemed like the male lead was extending himself and making a lot more changes within his life vs the female lead. The female lead seemed quite reluctant to help or extend herself to help the him but it is easily can be contributed to her insecurity and being unsure what to do in those social situations. Still the female lead did gain confidence and courage, she learned to find her own happiness that is not based on being "pretty".

In the end I just wished that we got more storyline after the main female gained her confidence, since that was when we got to really see her personality and also saw more of the male leads personality since she helped to bring him out of his shell. Still all in all it was a good series with a good message.

why am I conflicted in wanting a killer to find love?

Finished watching this, yes I know I'm so late to the party but I honestly am so glad I gave this show a shot.
JUST WoOoow. Ok.. I'm not 100% wanting them to have a happy ending but that was a tragic & sort of a sweet twist of a love-story/horror. on one hand...i felt like I wanted them to find happiness together even though yes he is a serial killer.

add to that a cast of badass women, who definitely didn't ask permission. each of the women in this cast had their own strengths and were unapologetic in using their power to get what they set their sights on.

A story of trauma, healing, and the journey between

I've seen a lot of bad reviews saying this series is lacking on story since there was no diabolical other woman/man, death threats, evil Mother in law, etc. but honestly it was refreshing to see the main characters growing and healing together.

From first impressions Young Joon seems to be cold and pompous but you see as the story goes why he became that way. He felt as a kid that he had to hide his trauma from not only a kidnapping but the preceding bullying that was inflicted by his brother that caused him to be kidnapped. It was implied that he was ostracized for being intellectually gifted, so instead of letting others mock him for it, he shrouds himself in a protective façade of being overly pompous. When he starts to relax around Mi So, he becomes more open and protective of her but then when he becomes nervous he will slip back behind the self protective wall of being overly pretentious. I really loved seeing him grow as a partner to her, going from "wont it be great to marry me, an amazing intelligent handsome man" to "I want to marry you, the most amazing beautiful intelligent woman, can I have that honor?"

Also seeing how the brothers guilt over what he did and how it caused him to repress the real memories and how it caused so much animosity between them. Them learning to forgive each other and regain their brotherly love was so nice to see.

Also the side couples, are the cutest. I love the awkwardness and sweet love between them.

My heart sang with happiness and sadness watching this series

I have to first say, I am a huge fan of this show. To the point that I have the monkey stuffed animal that Oh Kong gives the female lead! but I will say, for me, the ending left me heart broken and sad. I will advise anyone who is searching for happy ending, to not watch this series since I still haven't fully recovered and I still tear up listening to "when i saw you" by bumkey since it just brings it all back lol.

Even with all of that though, I still loved this show, it was the most amazing mix of fantasy and comedy that leaves you hooked watching every episode back to back since its hard to be left on the cliffhangers at the end. I enjoyed how much the female lead was a badass on her own and the male lead respected her strength and would offer his own only if she needed it or asked for it.

Each of the characters were amazing, so i didn't mind when the story didn't focus on the main leads and we got to learn more about the side characters and their pasts. Some of them were absolutely heart breaking, and made you empathize with some of the scariest characters.

I truly wish they would make another season, or a spin off since It was just a great series that fully immerses you into this fantasy world and definitely leaves you wanting more.

On a side note, I am completely in love with Oh Kong's first hair style (the long hair he had in his prison) vs the one he had for the rest of the show... so sad he didn't keep that hair cut the whole time.

Second lead won my vote

I loved this series so so sooo soooooo much. honestly it was so refreshing to see her embracing her beauty, her friends embracing her too. And the men around her seeing her beauty with and without makeup.
Now I have to be honest that I was so split on the last few episodes, which was such a twist. I love Han Seo Jun, I loved him the entire series. There was no "questionable" moments that usually comes when learning about the second male lead that pushes you to root for the male lead. He was sweet, tough, funny, and his love for her was selfless. He fought to protect her, didn't care if he was teased for his constant care and wasn't expecting anything in return for his love.
I honestly had this momentary hope that instead of running to "stop" Su ho, she would walk towards the entrance then stop and race after Seo Jun and find him crying. Embrace him and they can reminisce about how much they grew together over the years. How he was more of a partner to her, supported her and loved her over the years.
Yes, I know Su Ho was set in between a rock and a hard place when they broke up, but their relationship was a high school, first love romance. They didn't really go on proper dates or grow together since it was a constant battle from the get go, that excited rush of the honeymoon period. So to have them instantly get back together just seemed a bit cliche since it was Seo Jun who gave her the care and love, spent years as her friend and built a real foundation together.
Don't get me wrong, I know the heart wants what it wants, sometimes you just don't have those feelings for someone. Su Ho is a great character and I do like their love story but I just rooted for Seo Jun a bit more in this. RaWr.
I also was in tears with his singing the song in the end, his raw emotions. I just wanted him to have a happy ending too.

I LOVED this series but had one problem with it.

As the headline says, I adored this drama, the story, cast, the chemistry was on point the entire series. You can feel the chemistry from the leads and see how it was her health that the main focus even though at first the female lead was more concerned about reclaiming what she had when she was younger. I loved how they explored not only weight loss in a safe healthy way and a dangerous way but also rehabilitation from injuries.
My biggest issue was the ending, it left me wanting more from their journey. They went through so much I wanted a big wedding or to progress further on her being pregnant but healthy. Even a well rounded pudgy preggo tummy in a wedding gown that the grandma looks at happily because she got her big wedding present from them. I needed to see Mr. Coach as a dad with little munchkins hanging on him while he playfully lifts them likes weights.
I think we could have gotten that ending if they focused on the main leads more vs the second leads as much in the last two episodes.
but all in all I loved it so so soooo much.

Reading between the lines

First off I really enjoyed this movie because it genuinely had some really great fight scenes and honestly always love justice for the underdog/bullied stories.
If it was up to me, I would love for this to become a series.

This is a movie about a teacher standing up for her students and giving them a safe space when NO ONE else would. That is what we should get from the storyline .Yes we may have to allow creative intervention (beating him up) take place first, instead of removing students like him from school and jailing him. Which is what happens at the end, when the everyone finally feels safe enough to band together and report all their evidence to the police.

Now do I believe we need a teacher who should kick the snot out of kids who are bullies, of course not. And I don't believe this movies is even really encouraging that either. If you honestly watch it, you notice she is on a journey of realigning her values in life and making "IF you do nothing, nothing will happen" her new mantra. So she is making the choice to not just getting by or giving in, like when she threw the Olympic qualifying match and makes the choice to not to continue ignoring a student who is on the edge of being killed for a promised promotion.

Now I want to address all the negative posts and low ratings for this because " we shouldn't encourage violence against bullying" or "this movie is bad because how can a teacher beat up a student? we shouldn't encourage that!" or " bullying isn't as bad as this movie makes it seem"

Yes bullying, terrorizing is and has always been as bad as it is shown in this movie. It happens all around the world and society condones it by ignoring it and passing it off to someone else to solve. Children and Teenagers are pushed to the brink every day where they consider leaving this world vs going to school so lies about this extent of bullying being fictional is just sad and honestly makes those who say that just as bad as the one who is hurting others.

Allowing social pressures and money to silence you from stepping in and helping someone is something we should feel shame over instead of justifying it by saying "oh the bullying isn't that bad. This movie wasn't encouraging people to beat up students but to stand up for those who are being bullied.

Embracing the darkness to appreciate the light (TW before watching)

First and foremost, I would advise those who watch this series to make sure you know it does cover some VERY violent topics and mental health concerns. Even with knowing this myself, I had to take a few breaks due to feeling overwhelmed since it really shows some raw emotions and encapsulates the journey many must take when facing their pasts.

I normally go into series that portray characters with labeled mental health issues with an expectation that they may not represent them correctly or even create new ones that have no real science to back it up. Watching this series I was taken back by how seamlessly they constructed the storyline, it did a good job of balancing the romance with real life scenarios and mental health issues. They didn't make the issues into a gimmicks to progress the story forward but truly delved into what it means to have these diagnosis but also showed how they are not death sentences. That they could not be easily solved with the power of love but showed that with some you must choose to place your mental health first on a daily basis and learn to love yourself, flaws and all, before taking the step to love others.

I don't want to spoil this series all too much since I loved how they slowly peeled away the layers of the characters, leading the viewer to really fall in love with each character before learning about the scars and painful pasts they each have. I will say if you are anything like me, you will be crying on and off watching it.

One thing I really want to highlight is that this series is one of the most complex love stories I have ever watched. So if you aren't afraid to have your heart break a few times before having it cobbled back together stronger in the end, then definitely give this series a chance.

Pros and cons

Fun watch, I enjoyed this series .
As someone who watched both the series and the movie, I have to say I enjoyed the series slightly better overall because the main characters seem to have a lot more chemistry. Even in the cute moments in the movie there didn't seem to be any real sparks or that moment of "pow".
Still the series had issues that I felt the movie did not have, with the ending being rushed and ambiguous. In the movie, I liked that they also gave the female lead more skills and that he wanted to create a show about her parents love story.

So yes, I recommend to watch this series since it is really good but it lacks in some degrees.

A story about your own UNIQUE love.

Before you watch this series, I will say it is unique and can push boundaries. Which shouldn't be a surprise if you are at all familiar with Japanese films/series since they are known to have shows like that.

Once you get past the sweat focus, its honestly such a sweet love story about two people who are a building their own happy, loving relationship which may not conform to the norm. I will say the series is fast paced and cuts out A LOT of the background information/characters that you get from the manga (hint hint: read the manga!)

So, the female lead is a shy, anxious woman who was incessantly bullied due to her sweating as a kid - which as we all know when your stress, you only seem to sweat more -. She is intelligent, working as an accountant at a soap company but you can tell from the start she is unsure about her own body and what her value is as a partner/woman. Still she works hard to communicate to the male lead and doesn't rely on the stereotype that "he will guess the problem".
The male lead oversteps social boundaries but it can be overlooked somewhat due to him being a bit eccentric and utilizes his sense of smell to create new scents for soap. I would describe his personality as being similar to an odd painter who sees a new muse and begs for them to sit and model for them so they can create a new piece of art. He is very compassionate and hardworking, he shows his love to the female lead in all the ways he can and even shows his own vulnerability when he is scared he may be losing her.

All in all they work together to build each other up, overcoming insecurities and embracing each others uniqueness. I love the message of "I know I couldn't be there to have shield you from the pain you suffered, but I can be here now to share the painful memory of it and help you learn to heal".

cute and steamy

This is one of those series that leave you completely satisfied with the ending, there is no "i need the epic conclusion!" because they give you everything wrapped up with a beautiful bow. I recommend this show for anyone who really wants a fluffy sweet romance that had some really steamy scenes.

I loved the buildup of the main characters relationship, it wasn't a instant "kapow" but a sweet shift that really showed them growing up and understanding what they truly had with one another. The key ,I felt, was how good the chemistry was between the actors since it was in the subtle changes that you really felt them shift from childhood best friends to something more.

The love interests that was placed in this show, especially for the female lead, were well placed and really showed cute milestones that most teenagers go through. The adorable puppy love, with sweet little gifts and clumsy acts shows of affection that sometimes went completely over her head. Then figuring out how to know if you really like someone or admire them for being an amazing person. They were great characters, even if they were more so fluffy than complications that needed to be fixed.

I also feel they did an amazing job with portraying the "computer science prince charming" guy and how she did nothing wrong to encourage the behavior he showed. Though I do wish the female lead was able to knock him on his butt and give him a wakeup call.

Confused and Sad?

I can't fault the actors in this series, truly I could tell they were all trying their best to make the best of very bad script but I wouldn't recommend this to watch

As many can tell from my reviews, I am a very avid fan of these dramas which is why I gave my all to this series. Truly I tried to grit my teeth to watch it through the very confusing story and I even wouldn't have given a second thought to the very weird "antidote" that the female leads kiss is framed as for the male leads disease but honestly it got creepy after a while.

STILL I tried to watch, hoping for a redeeming story between the couple, to hope for a glimmer of chemistry. but the story just kept getting more confusing with characters going on random plot lines for absolutely no reason to progress the story. I honestly started to just watch it without really trying to understand each persons actions but just wanting to finish the series, since I hate to give a review without watching the entire series

Then I got a ways into episode 23 and I just had to laugh at the absurdity of what was happening and just couldn't push myself to watch anymore. I realized that I shouldn't have watched this series past the first few episodes when I began ignoring the apparent issues in the storyline.

I'm dying from the absolute cuteness in this show

I love love loveeeeeed the main couple, they had the most amazing chemistry and their story was really sweet to watch unfold, especially learning about their childhood together.

They had one of the most realistic and healthy relationships I've seen in one of these shows before. They challenged each other, argued but also loved each other when frustrated with each other. One of the most sweetest scenes was when Yuan Shuai made dinner and pretended to leave so that Jiang Jun could "sneakily" eat her fill of dinner when they were in a middle of a fight. He really just embraced her independence but also gave her support and help when she needed it.

There wasn't really an evil woman who had her sights on Yuan Shuai so you don't see any real cat fights so you never doubted Yuan Shuai's love for her. But the second male lead Du Lei had a pretty great character growth but it was lost for no real apparent reason in the last few episodes when he turned somewhat evil again. I really found that disappointing since I enjoyed seeing him grow as a character and wished they had someone else as the "final boss" for the storyline.

What can be said about this drama other than a simple masterpiece?

If you are looking for a "swoon and boom" love story with over the top confessions with evil being conquered, then this is not the one for you. So instead of a rollercoaster, its more so catching the wrong bus, not knowing where you may end up but enjoying the new scenery and deciding to see where it leads instead of jumping off on the next stop.

I honestly can't say anything bad about it from the start to the finish, its like looking into a world of "real" people with insecurities, goals, and baggage that they are learning to deal with on their own but also supporting each other.

This isn't a story that just focuses on the main couple and the side couples are there for filler but more so a household of friends turned family who support and love each other, while yes couples are formed in that time that is definitely not the main focus.

I don't want to spoil anything since I found this story to be one that is unique and fulfilling to watch from start to finish, and I do mean finish since the last minute of this show truly gives you the best moment of "it all worked out and they are truly happy they followed their dreams"
