It at ends 12 but if they follow the gist of the novel then the rest of the lifetimes should be shorter. 5-7 technically aren't lifetimes they have to live per se. They spend those last 3 trying to seal an evil force and in the drama's case, they may be trying to deal with the Cang Hai issue. That's my guess.

Every time they return to the heaven realm you can feel the impact. I try my best to be open minded but can't help think about the comedy bits.
