I agree with you and that is the reason why I think that they should have cast a somewhat older and more mature…
That's my preference too but some cases it can be exceptional if their looks are compatible, and acting align with one another like Deng Lun and Ni Ni. Deng Lun does have a youthful face but he's a phenomenal actor, one of the best actors out there.

Deng Lun is one of the best Chinese actors of this younger generation. It's a shame he doesn't do much dramas.
