I've seen Lee Jun Ki in Iljimae and even though I haven't seen Faith, I believe he would have played a main role in saeguk really well, so who knows.
As for Boys Over Flowers, I think Jang Geun Suk might have been even a better choice, because he surely can be both arrogant and stupid. But it seems Lee Min Ho did a pretty good job himself.

On another topic, it's really almost childish to see a judgment like "it's so good that actor A turned down the role because then I got to know actor B..."

I would recommend 3 iron. It's Korean, it's romance, but definitely not your usual one. It barely has any talk in it and I love it.
