If you don't know about it, look up the terrible reason that put an end to the Japanese reality TV show Terrace House a few years back: The Boyfriend is almost a perfect copy of Terrace House (except that Terrace House = straight people). Terrace House was definitely staged and there seem to be instances where the cast felt pressured to do things by staff. I would not be surprised if it was the case with The Boyfriend. And that's why I'm not very comfortable with the format.
As some commented, the age gap is indeed around 22-25 years. And I understand why that would make some people uncomfortable. But the actor playing P'Khiao is in his early 30s and that's what is truly misleading. He should look around 40-45 years old if there was actual consistency with the dates given throughout the show. I fear that if he did look 40-45 y-o, more people would feel uncomfortable. So either the showrunners are really bad at math or they purposefully chose to "hide" the age gap by casting someone who looks younger. It would have been so easy to minimize the age gap in the scenario...
I was fed up with kdramas. This one did not help. People are not stupid so please work on your plots. Only positive…
Is it me or did they completely bailed on the "poisoned dart killing Yeon Wol" twist in the last episode? It's heavily implied that she's dying but then...she's not and everyone's happy, yay. What a waste...

Just watched the first episode and I don't really understand the need for 10 episodes: I mean, marry him already RIGHT? He's like...LITERALLY PERFECT? πβ€οΈ
Isn't there something a bit off with this series? (Haven't watched the Thai original so this definitely doesn't influence my opinion.) --> The editing / transition work seems particularly weak! It feels like it was meant to be written as 45min to 1 hour episodes that ended up having to be reduced to 25/30 min (?). --> The dialogues (or translations?) are also confusing 50% of the time... I still enjoy it because the overall plot is ok and the actors work quite well together. But, I'm severely confused (especially because, lately, K-BL quality has increased so, of course, the expectations are getting higher as well). Sorry if I missed comments addressing these specific points (I just felt frustrated so had to write this right away π)
I know it might sound weird but I preferred Daonuea & Khabkluen's story to Nueng & Palm's... It definitely has "less" scenario and is often cringy but, in the end, it's just fluffy and simple. Ep 1 and 2 had more ambition but ended up going in a weird direction. Sometimes less is more...
AND WE'RE BACK TO MORE CAPS LOCK THIS WEEK...THESE TWO EPISODES HAVE NOT CURED THE ANXIETY CAUSED BY LAST WEEK'S EPISODES. That being said, this is, in my opinion, an amazing show <3
