If it follows the novel at all, it's going to be very toxic, violent, and intense. Both leads will suffer tremendously. But good. Be warned.

Is the novel worth reading?

Yes, I read it months ago and it was so good I'm going to reread it again soon before I watch the drama. It's one of my top 3 novels I've read in translation.

Title Never-Ending Summer

This was almost impossible to rate with a single number. Acting and chemistry? 10+/10. Zhou Keyu and Bao Shangen brought so much to these roles and were magnetic. Plotting/storyline? 5/10. I even went and read the entire webnovel after finishing the show just to see what the original writer intended with the plot, which was VERY helpful and wish the show had managed to convey the character motivations better (and do less contrived extra plotting/storyline). Regardless, these characters and moments as portrayed by these actors will stick with me.

Title The Story of Ming Lan

is it worth it?? 73 episodes feels like a commitment i'm not ready to make unless it's 100% worth it.

I avoided it for many many months despite knowing I would like it because of the episode count... I'm now on ep 63 and DO NOT want it to end. This is absolutely one of my top 3 dramas of all time now. The writing/acting is so so good, plot points from early on reverberate late into the drama. It's a masterpiece, really.
