It's not stereotypical because:
The main lead isn't rude, egocentric and handsome but nice, warm, normal and "ugly"
there is no cliche in man and woman relationship, not even one and that's why someone may not like it
the police officers are not stupid, jealous and corrupt
important part of drama are touching scenes with melancholy music
unexpectedly there is a theme of family relationships: father and daughter, daughter and unseen mother, unni and younger sister, presented in poetic and artistic way
antagonist - well, it's stereotypical, he is soooo evil

The problems you have described show that evidently Chinese dramas are not actually drama, but the same series as American or Swedish or British or... I think drama as a genre has a specific way of showing inner dilemma and difficulty of characters and drama of their emotional life.
