The level of degeneration and social pathology in this drama is high. Very high. Is it possible for love to be innocent and right there? The reality drips with evil and immorality and I'm really curious what the main idea of this story will be...
I'm not sure if I've seen any love triangle dramas, but I've seen some good love triangle movies. I think France…
These love triangles are more about lust and physical desire, but love triangles in dramas are about something else: about the fact that the choice of your love is something mysterious and is not lead by calculated rations, they present the uncertainty of love, infatuation and passion. And, I think, this stereotype condemn and disapprove betrayal in love.
I'm still hesitating watching this movie or not, because Park Chan Wook's films are depressive (and with pervert sexuality), but after your review, I think maybe I can live without seeing this immortal work...
There are some stories where love triangles are different and end out the scheme: Replay 1988, King of Baking Kim Tak Goo, Empress Ki, Ex-Girlfriends' Club.
I agree: there is a problem with the character of Oh Sol. It's not like Kim Yoo Jung can't play. She is an amazing actress, but the main girl is not well written: she is dull, uninteresting, she has nothing to say instead of being energetic, enthusiastic and clever, because she should be an opposite character to Gyun Sang if this supposed to make sense.
Is it me or is it something wrong with character of Gil Oh Sol? Maybe Kim Yoo Jung is too smart and serious to play "dirty" and stupid girl? I think the female lead could have been written better. I like Kim Yoo Jung very much, but here she has nothing interesting to play.
Good action-historical-thriller movie. There is no development of characters at all, but instead the pace of story is super fast. The fimling is going smoothly and the cast is great. It's entertaining how much entertainment can be the crunch of broken bones and the massacre of Joseon citizens.
Very nice review :) I must admit that indeed this is (with "The Guest") the best drama thriller I have ever seen! The beginning does not promise something spectacular, but it later becomes extraordinary and outstanding. The directing, filming and acting are excellent!
But let me ask: doesn't he seem a bit suspicious to you? ;)
