They have a good cast, because Nam Ji Hyun is perfect for this role of country girl and Do Kyung Soo is an enough grumpy prince. There is a conspiracy, revenge and a bit of humor but the script is bad! There are a lot of unnecessary scenes and I wonder where this plot is going?
Thanks for this review, I tried to watch this drama twice (many people were enthusiastic about it), but I dropped it. It was so awkward. So, I will not force myself...
I see that it was not just me who had the impression that plot was a bit phlegmatic and slow. Also Jung Kyuong Ha doesn`t really fit this role, although his shock of brutal methods of interrogation was rightly emphasized in drama. But Ko A Sung, whom I adore, was in her proper place. As for 1988: this is the year of a new beginning for Korea, when the race to the top of world knowledge and techlology began, and when a new democratic constitution was established. I understand very well the focus on this year, because also 1989 was the year of a new beginning for post-communist Poland, where I live.
There are two stars here, one is Kim Tae Ri (Ae Shin), the other is Byun Yo Han (fiancé). They play with great talent and high sensitivity, and they have great chemistry. However the director should give Kim Tae Ri more difficult and interesting scenes to show her capabilities. She is really amazing. It is unfortunate that she doesn`t get along with Byun Yo Han...
Thanks for this review. Until now, I didn`t know that the UK and Korean versions are different (I didn`t watch the original). As for me, it is easy to identify with the 80s in Korea, because I find the same atmosphere as in Poland, when martial law set in. I agree that the acting and cast are great and directing as well.
Kim Tae Ri is great and amazing! Her character is one of the most interesting in kdrama in general, because AShin is intelligent, proud, righteous and brave women, but the age gap between Lee Byung Hun is probably too big to convince us of their love, and he plays a bit stiff and distant.
I read a book called lost you forever and EVERYONE shipped the FL with all 3 men and I couldn’t understand it…
Because of the fact that there is American money in this drama, and think Eugene, the symbol of the American order, is going to survive and will be happy ending, unfortunalety.

I totally agree. Park Min Young - this is her business, what her face looks like, but I do not have to watch it.
Ajajaj, they have deceived me! They trick me all the time. I have no nerves for this! Nam Shin is complicated, he needs love but roboshin gets the one, he wants the mother, but she is the mother of robot. Nam Shin thinks: I'm not needed, mother has good replacement. Then what will he do if it turns out that the secretary and his the only friend loves more a robot?
At first I was not fond of the slow pace of this drama. I was expecting Goblin's fast pace sequence and drama.…
I hope that screenwriter Kim Eun Sook will not make the same mistake as the Hwayugi scriptwriters - sisters Hong - who created the main character of Sun Mi as placed between the world of demons and people, and they never asked: who are you? powerful immortal beying or an ordinary person? In the same way, captain Choi is placed between U.S and Joseon. He wants to be an American, but his graves and love are here. If he does not ask himself: who am I, his character and actions will be incomprehensible and unclear.
Is it me, or is it anti-Korean drama? Japan is threatening and powerful, America is rightful and honorable, and Joseon is weak, full of social injustice, corruption and poverty. Therefore, the question of Eugene becomes understandable: is it worth fighting for this homeland?
Quite good drama with a small budget, but still filmed in interesting places. The motive of the plastic surgery is a bit bizarre, but it explains the personality change of the female lead. I think the story is not as mysterious as it seemed at the beginning, but the characters are interesting enough and you want to watch them more.
