I think it's safe to assume it is virtual?...the voice Chun Hua is talking to in the beginning mention about virtual love, but then Chun Hua said she doesn't want the physiological stimulation but wanna experience love. And I believe she gave up her immortality just to do so...so I guess it can be real as well..lol..am contradicting myself :)))

I see. I did watch the first few episodes and I, too, like you feel that it had some potential but I had to stop it as I don't understand Chinese...and I agree, the ML is cute too^^...

There are way better Jdramas out there too..you just have to know the best ones...I do understand that this type of drama falls into those somewhat 'cliche' types esp. since it's adapted from a manga romance...
