Just finished watching this and I love it! This is the first japanese drama I’ve watched were the FL is strong…
There are TONS of J dramas with strong female characters. You've probably watched the shoujo dramas meant for teenagers instead of the proper cable dramas.
Finally caught up on the last 5 episodes after waiting so long for the subs... Despite losing a bit of momentum…
Adding on to the above user's recommended dramas and there are many more, but these are the ones I remember at the top of my head. Do read the tags as some of them have a tragic element.

The slap is what shocked me, I totally saw the cheating coming because the FL was very immature from the start,…
EXACTLY People call her trash but she was immature and vulnerable. You cannot fully blame her for the way things transpired. She did not intend to cheat. This show portrayed their relationship very realistically, without sugarcoating things.
People decried the use of violent rape in lakorns as a plot device, to precipitate the romantic relationship between…
Not just that, but the rape and violence is in no way portrayed to be 'romantic'. Yes he develops feelings for her in the process, but she remains firm and unshaken. She does not give in and neither does she feel any love for him, not until the end when she realizes that she can trust him and his sincerity is real. Unlike 99% of lakorns, Kawee regrets each and every act he did. He puts himself at her mercy and does everything in his power to redeem himself. His core character remains the same (he is still stubborn, charming and sharp-mouthed), but he learns to channel all that energy into doing the right thing.
It's a powerful story that deserves appreciation for the journey. One can't appreciate it by looking at events in isolation. I don't expect everyone to like it or watch it, but if you do, you need to watch it entirely otherwise there is no point.
Also for people who have a problem with this - they should not be watching lakorns in the first place, because most of them contain harassment, rape etc to some degree. I can barely name 10 lakorns with a healthy relationship. At least this one doesn't sugercoat anything and acknowledges everything the ML did as cruel and wrong.
"In a heart that stood strong alone, waves are created." "The lionfish looks like an aloof existence but apparently, it's capable of teamwork too. It's beautiful and poisonous but it's not just that. Don't you think that's the best?"
A heartwarming, endearing and sensitive mini-drama, with a nuanced performance by Shison Jun as a transgender lesbian woman, who taught me a little more about acceptance, self-love and being kind. I fell in love with her grace, her strength, and her wit. Machida Keita's character was a lovely addition as well, who won my heart with his spirit and honesty. Highly recommend this gem that brought me so much joy :)
I've seen him in a lot of movies and dramas but he hit it out of the park as a transgender woman in Joshi-teki Seikatsu. What a beautiful performance!!
OMG
*constantly adds to watchlist*
Also the synopsis sounds nothing like Secret Love Affair, which I absolutely loved.
Can't wait for this! Hope it gets subbed!

Inclined to check this out for Yoo Seung Ho.
