Whether you hate it or love it, this film is going to affect you. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED. This one drained me. The violence, psychological abuse, poverty and despair one can be faced with, and to think this is based of a real story; heartbreaking.
All I will say is that watch this only if you're ready to have your heart broken for the little boy who was destroyed by his own mother. Unfortunately, society wasn't kind enough to care either. The mother sucked, but she too was dealing with mental illness that no one ever paid attention too, and you can't help but pity her even though you're so disgusted by her. What makes this film so amazing is that it can be looked at in either ways; a mother's abuse or a son's unconditional love for his mother.
The acting and direction were freaking stellar. Nagasawa Masami and Okudaira Daiken deserve all the awards they won for this film. I hope that the actors were fine after filming this because I can't even imagine how disturbed they must have been. All in all, a grueling yet great film. Japan does this genre best.
I don't get it why the marority of Jdramas are about fake/arranged marriage??
LOL this is a shoujo romance drama. You should watch the regular J dramas which are not shoujo romances and have way more variety. Majority of J dramas are pretty dark / slice of life.
Bloomingtide made a really nice comment explaining what did really mean. There were some mistranslation from Korean…
I've been watching K dramas since the 90s so I understand what the dialogues meant and I'm not taking the literal 'pure' meaning. Also, the dialogue itself was messy. The writer didn't write that well. But fact is the leads don't walk the talk as I explained further, and the worst they refuse to own up to the fact that they're both clearly giving mixed signals. They act like they're stuck in a messy situation when they've clearly been the one to decide to act that way.
You have summarized my sentiments. With the difference that I have already decided to drop it. Honestly, both…
To be honest, I am not sure if I'll even tune in the next week. If I've got nothing to watch, I might otherwise I might also not return HAHA
I have no issue if that's the characterisation they wanted going for the leads.. but what I hate is the double standards in that the writer wants to portray them as 'pure' while making them messy. If they owned what they were, I would at least be able to take it.
The whole 'being pure' conversation just didn't sit well with me.. what the hell is that supposed to mean?! THAT TOO IN THIS DAY AND AGE.
Also, FL talks about the ML giving mixed signals but she herself fantasizes about both men fighting over her, and leads on the second ML while expecting commitment from the ML? Seriously, the FL is so unlikeable.
ML himself is not helping.. we have been given literally no back story of how his realistion about the past came about, and why he reached the hospital. He tells FL to wait. But what exactly are they waiting for? He's already made things clear with second FL. He hasn't even told his parents that he's broken up with 2nd FL.
Why is the show focusing on the stupid love triangle when they could lead the story forward about the spells and curse etc... K dramas need to stop with this love triangle obsession.
I'll wait one more episode before dropping it to see if it gets any better.
anyone can recommend me dramas like this, where not much is going on, but very aesthetic and feels good to watch?
There are tons of slice of life J dramas like this - Nijiiro Karute Bokura wa Kiseki de Dekite Iru Okaeri Mone Mi wo Tsukushi Ryouricho Nagi's Long Vacation Osozaki no Himawari Oi Handsome! Ore no Hanashi wa Nagai Omameda Towako to Sannin no Motootto Dele Ukiwa: Tomodachi Ijo, Furin Miman [this one isn't feel good but its got great aesthetic / vibe]
Feel free to reach out for more! Hope you enjoy them :)
Oh man, the subs on this are bad. Like the food items or significance of certain traditions have not been translated. And to think, the subber was paid to do it for Netflix. It made me appreciate fansubbers so much more.. like they not only translate the words / meaning but always go the extra mile to explain cultural differences, word puns, significance of locations / traditions etc. Seriously, respect to the entire Japanese fansubbing community. You guys are awesome, and deserve to be paid for the hard work you do.
