I love Matsuzaka Tori & Ai Yoshikawa BUT OMG Suzuki Anne!!! She was freaking amazing in Aoi Tori, I fell in love with her. So nice to see her here!!! <3
WOW this got me so emotional I don't even know where to begin.. it was PERFECT. It was just so romantic, moving & sincere in every way (words fall short really).
I love how this was documentary-like in the way they presented the FL's struggles with her self-esteem at different stages of her life (from a kid to being a mother) & presented the impact she made on others' lives & how they, too, struggled along with her. I cried along with her, smiled with her & went through so many emotions.
There were so many things I learnt from this - the most important being that we shouldn't look at one's disability, rather we should look at the person, & that a loving family is no miracle. It is made up of one's commitment to the family, trust and communication.
Also, if you ask me what kind of a man I want, I can say with confidence, the ML in this tops the list for me. He was no perfect man, but he was an understanding husband, & father. He never gave up on the family & constantly worked to bridge whatever difficulties or differences they had. The FL, too.
This is a MUST WATCH. I would recommend this to every single person.
Thank you for this article! I have been watching Taiwanese Dramas since the 90s and I agree that they have changed in the recent years. It's sad they're no longer as popular anymore. I loved all the dramas you mentioned on the list. They're great & definitely worth the watch. The only drama I disliked from your list was Bromance.
Some other fantastic T-dramas I really want to recommend (though they're not recent) - The Rose In A Good Way Bump Off Lover Amour et Patisserie Love, Now
I haven't read the manga but I really liked the movie, unlike majority of the comments. It was a bittersweet movie on romance, friendship & navigating through relationships as a youth, with an A1 soundtrack. The direction & screenplay was exceptional & added a flair to the movie, making it more than your average high school romantic movie.
Given all the negative comments about this, I went in with low expectations to see how bad it could be, but I surprisingly really liked the first episode. Maybe it's just me, but even the actress who played Kurumi acted better. She was way more bearable. To me, the first season's best moments were when they focused on the cast dynamics & interactions, so I quite liked the first episode. I liked the set up & the tone they set for what's to come. I hope that the actual climax point won't be as disappointing though.. On to episode 2.
E2. "Menstruation is not something to be ashamed of" PREACH SISTER!!!!! I absolutely love how this show blends these kinds of topics in such a light-hearted "extra" setting. They make it so normal. Refreshing! Also, where do I find a guy like Meguru? He's so cute, gentle and kind.
How similar is this to the Korean version? Not sure if I should start this since I finished the Korean version…
I don't know how similar they are as I ended up dropping the Korean version, but for me, this version was absolutely PERFECT! It was tight-scripted, contemplative & satisfying. (Not at all melodramatic unlike the K version) I do know they didn't have the adultery storyline in this version.
Haaaaaiii!!! I'm so happy I found a fan! I will never forget that drama and its great ensemble! I even recapped…
SAME SAME. That drama has a special place in my heart too. I loved all the characters so so much, esp Issei and Hikari who I lowkey shipped <3 Happy to find a Quartet fan!! There are so many people who haven't seen that wonderful drama! If you don't mind, please do link me to your recap, I would love to read it :)
I get what the show is doing; showing the flaws in the judicial system through the contrasting protagonists. Playing…
Interesting... I didn't see the sexism at all. He didn't expect or ask her to apologise. Also I don't remember her apologising a lot? Whenever she did, she did so because she wanted to save herself & detach herself from the soup the ML was in. Also I definitely did not see her acting as a robot (at least not in the context you described) Different perspectives I guess.
I do agree on the ML's behaviour though. I wish they toned it down because his behaviour in the courtroom is hard to watch. The only thing that is appeasing me at the moment is that they're acknowledging that his behaviour is being criticised & he may face severe repercussions. I hope they don't go down the route of merely telling us & not showing us the consequences in the end.
I saw the first episode and I loved this so much. Don't be misled by that cheesy title or poster. The backdrop…
When Wako asked Meguru if they could be equals in the relationship rather than taking on the role of man/woman, DAMN I WAS SO FREAKING IMPRESSED. Like that is such a powerful statement. Even today, many of us want to be equals in the relationship, but say things like a man should treat a woman like a woman, or that men should do this & women should do this. That is not being equal. Like Meguru said 'you are you, I am me'.
Also that ending line that Meguru said about making Wako love everything about him. Yes it sounds cheesy. But in the context of this drama, & how Meguru had advocated self-love, it was moving. Many of us 'love' but we don't accept certain aspects of the other person & try to change them. But Meguru wants to be loved fully, he "demands" it (for the lack of a better word) & encourages Wako, too, to love herself.
If this isn't a healthy, empowering relationship then I don't know what is.
Some of the scenes in the episode were so extra, but the dialogue and interactions were so genuine, heartfelt & beautiful.
I saw the first episode and I loved this so much. Don't be misled by that cheesy title or poster. The backdrop of this may seem extra in the first episode, but the conversations make up for it. It is cute & fluffy, but manages to be heartfelt & serious in its conversations & commentary about gender roles & stereotypes that are constantly reinforced by society. That's quite a feat! Colour me impressed!
So you're telling me that each episode she's gonna date a different guy just so that he can write his manga?!WHAT…
I know right?! I thought it was only going to happen in the 1st episode but that ending in E2 threw me off. I quite like this. Hope they won't ruin it.
Satomi is so delicate here. There's this innocence & softness to her, which I like. Go seems like a tender man who protects himself by being mean, which is somewhat of a Kdrama stereotype, but I like how it's not in your face (don't know how to explain this).. in simple words, it's not loud. I loved their conversations in this episode, & the chemistry (esp in the lift) The background music was beautiful too <3
I am liking this. It's a pleasant, easy watch minus the YouTuber (GO AWAY!)
Episode 2 was infinitely enjoyable and better than the first episode, I feel like the director for ep1 and ep2…
I agree! The direction was better, and it felt more Jdrama-like though it still has a lot of Kdrama tropes (not that I am complaining). I loved the background music at some points, esp during the leads' conversation. I have warmed up to this drama & our leads :)
You clearly mentioned how much you hate J dramas on the Mairunovich page. So why are you here? No one is forcing you to watch. Also, think twice before you call someone ugly. Imagine if the actor sees this, it would hurt him so much. You would not like someone calling you ugly.
