i gave this 9 but changed it to 10 your comment sums up my feelings.. this drama was such an experience.. like…
YES I agree.. this had that grandeur and cinematic effect, which made for quite the experience! After some debating, I settled for an 8.5 even though I would have loved to give it a much higher score. Maybe because I wanted the actual work they were doing to be more fleshed out.. at the end it was all about the dogs which was beautiful for a sentimental value and effect, but made the story a little flat for me. Having said that I was hooked and invested all the way, and the lack of a plot didn't take away from the beauty of the drama which is very rare... J-dramas just know how to hit you with the feels. And this is one of those dramas I'll probably never forget.
Btw did you binge this after I posted about it on feeds? Curious on how you found this as it isn't a popular drama and the only way to know / find out about it would be through the actors ' filmography and even then not many people have watched this despite Kimu Taku, Ayase Haruka, and Sakai Masato (read: A1 cast)
ME TOO I hope Netflix doesn't mess it up Somehow majority of the J-dramas made by these streaming services are subpar to the ones made by the local networks..
I just finished and thought the same thing 😅 I must be a minority cause I Love it too lol.I finding out I really…

Sigh I'm probably in the minority who wasn't a fan of the ending.. I wish it ended when they she sent him the…
Nope I didn't skip or miss any scene. I'm not talking about the backstory.. I am talking about living with the condition currently. They addressed her psychological state, but didn't address her physical condition well enough such as possible issues with sex or having infections / discomfort with wearing the prosthetic leg for too long. or problems if you sweat excessively, or the way people with prosthetics tend to rely much more on the leg that is intact and the problems with it.. Like other than the first few episodes, there was hardly much discussion or information given about it. I know they can live normally but there are some basic issues and hurdles they have to cross each day, and they are at higher risk of certain diseases / conditions such as vascular diseases etc. I don't work in the medical field but a close friend of mine had 1 of her legs amputated a few years back, and even though she is used to the prosthetic leg, she gets tired easily, and has to face a lot of pain each day. The FL didn't look believable as a person with a prosthetic leg IMO.
The plot focused way too much on her decision to go to Shanghai which was addressed poorly in the last episode, when they could have built on her condition, and how he supports her with it, and how they overcame the difficulties the condition posed for her. Helping her take off the leg, and giving her that validation was just the first step, but there was scope for a lot more. The romance was beautiful thanks to the leads, but the execution of her disability was subpar. I've seen better dramas / movies that addressed the disability well.
Are the movie and S1 different? Or is the movie just a compact version of the drama?
Great! Thank you so much. I will definitely watch it once you finish subbing as I want to watch every J drama from the 90s :)
There are these 2 dramas that I really want to watch and there are no subs.. for your consideration (no pressure at all!) Kiken na Kankei (1999) Hatachi no Yakusoku (1992)

Thank you for your reply! I am currently watching the 1st season, and I can't thank you enough for the subs :) Do you have any intention to sub more dramas from the 90s?
This, my friends, is why I love J-dramas so much. They always leave me in awe with their diversity and range of stories. With a plot centering around a group of men and huskies travelling to Antarctica for research, you would expect this to be a visceral experience, and boy it was! Maybe the plot or technical details might be boring for some people, but the feeling of being stuck in the cold snow of an unknown land, the camaraderie between the huskies and the men, the nationalism, the resilience, and the grandeur of it all transcended the plot and you can't help but be moved. This was by no means a perfect drama, but it represents why we watch cinema; to be soaked into the experience, and this delivered on that experience, with its crisp story-telling, wonderful performances, breathtaking cinematography and immersive score. All those dogs have my heart. Highly recommend this heartwarming gem for all :)
Also, I can't help but say this - Kimura Takuya and Ayase Haruka might not be the finest actors but they have a knack for choosing scripts. Both of them don't have a single bad drama, and that is very telling.
Mikami Hiroshi carried this mediocre drama with his nuanced performance as an eccentric, blunt and cocky musician. The drama had an episodic format for most of it with random guests coming in for an episode, which added little to the plot or the ML's journey. You have to suspend belief while watching this, because there's no way the ML could continue to get work with that kind of attitude. There was also little character development for him or any of the characters. To think 2 scriptwriters co-wrote this together, and both of them are some of my favourites.. but oh well, this was one of their early works and both writers have grown by heaps and bounds. I don't recommend this unless you're a fan of Mikami Hiroshi and want to watch everything he's ever done (like me). There are far better J-dramas from the 90s as well.
