Are the movie and S1 different? Or is the movie just a compact version of the drama?
Great! Thank you so much. I will definitely watch it once you finish subbing as I want to watch every J drama from the 90s :)

There are these 2 dramas that I really want to watch and there are no subs.. for your consideration (no pressure at all!)
Kiken na Kankei (1999)
Hatachi no Yakusoku (1992)

Thank you for your reply!
I am currently watching the 1st season, and I can't thank you enough for the subs :)
Do you have any intention to sub more dramas from the 90s?

This, my friends, is why I love J-dramas so much. They always leave me in awe with their diversity and range of stories.
With a plot centering around a group of men and huskies travelling to Antarctica for research, you would expect this to be a visceral experience, and boy it was! Maybe the plot or technical details might be boring for some people, but the feeling of being stuck in the cold snow of an unknown land, the camaraderie between the huskies and the men, the nationalism, the resilience, and the grandeur of it all transcended the plot and you can't help but be moved. This was by no means a perfect drama, but it represents why we watch cinema; to be soaked into the experience, and this delivered on that experience, with its crisp story-telling, wonderful performances, breathtaking cinematography and immersive score. All those dogs have my heart.
Highly recommend this heartwarming gem for all :)

Also, I can't help but say this - Kimura Takuya and Ayase Haruka might not be the finest actors but they have a knack for choosing scripts. Both of them don't have a single bad drama, and that is very telling.

Mikami Hiroshi carried this mediocre drama with his nuanced performance as an eccentric, blunt and cocky musician. The drama had an episodic format for most of it with random guests coming in for an episode, which added little to the plot or the ML's journey. You have to suspend belief while watching this, because there's no way the ML could continue to get work with that kind of attitude. There was also little character development for him or any of the characters. To think 2 scriptwriters co-wrote this together, and both of them are some of my favourites.. but oh well, this was one of their early works and both writers have grown by heaps and bounds.
I don't recommend this unless you're a fan of Mikami Hiroshi and want to watch everything he's ever done (like me). There are far better J-dramas from the 90s as well.

They still do.. tons of them.
These are the ones I can think of at the top of my head -

Karakai Jozu no Takagi-san (FL does the flirting and is the dominant one)
Soratobu Kouhoushitsu (FL chases first)
Love Lasts Forever (FL chases first)
Neechan No Koibito (FL chases first)
Date (FL is richer and ambitious while ML hates working)
Takane no Hana (FL is richer, stronger, chases first)
Kenja No Ai (FL grooms ML, is richer, stronger, and manipulative)
Will Love in Spring (FL chases first)
Tomorrow With You (FL chases first)
Attention, Love (FL chases first)
Love Shuffle (I can't remember who is richer / chases first, but pretty fun rom-com)

Will get back to you with more if I remember..
and I am glad you like my name.. that's pretty much what I do whenever I am free. There's nothing like chilling XDD

I can't remember all of them but these are some that come to my mind -

Love's Whirlpool
In the Realm of the Senses (this is actually explicit like porn, and the leads had sex)
The Cornered Mouse Dreams of Cheese
Kakou no Futari

If the reason you're dropping it is because she rejects him in E4 then watch on because they get together in E5…
It's not a great drama overall, but their love for each other was pretty unconditional and pure..

A bittersweet movie, filled with innocence, warmth and the uncertainties of growing up. about a bunch of kids playing hooky from kindergarden and taking their farewell trip across the country. As usual, Sakamoto Yuji did not disappoint, though this wasn't his best. All the kids were stellar.
