wait at the start of the first episode why does it show that he killed his brother?? I `m probably not going to…
You should consider putting a spoiler tag on your comment because that scene at the beginning of E1 is not the full picture. Both brothers stick together all the way, and neither kills the other.
What a ride! While some scenes were melodramatic, the unpredictability, concise story-telling and A1 performances…
Some issues I had with the writing / plot:
- I wonder why the reveal that Ryuji might be seeking revenge was revealed to Kirishimas so early on. That's like all 3 of them stepping into the fire willingly. Like how could you trust this person?! Normally one would be so much more cautious around this person but it's like all 3 of them relaxed and got manipulated so easily which was hard to believe.
-The plot point with the journalist was so convenient.. he's sitting at a bar and just nice, a man who has an agenda against Saito appears.. like seriously? I would rather the journalist did a little digging himself and find out the truth himself.
-Ryuichi being blackmailed and cornered by the yakuza again in E7 / E8 - LIKE DID YOU NOT LEARN FROM THE FIRST TIME ROUND TO NEVER TRUST THIS PERSON?!
What I liked:
-The brothers and their love for each other was really heartwarming.- I am so glad the opening scene in E1 was just clickbait and that their love for each other and for Misa never changed. Also, I am glad they did not turn the angle with Misa into a full blown love triangle though it was obvious both the brothers loved her. Best part both never fought over her (thank you scriptwriter!) or never openly acknowledged their love. And YAY for Misa not being the party pooper and actually turning out to be a stronger character who had the guts to be like let's-get-this-revenge-together-and-burn-together. This 'all for one, and one for all' motto all 3 siblings had was undoubtedly the best part of the drama. Even though Tamaki Hiroshi and Takahashi Issei look so different, there were times they looked like twins from the way they walked and turned. GENIUS DETAIL.
-Just when I thought I had the story figured out, there was a curveball thrown that made it go a different direction so that kept me on the edge of my seat.
-Nao's character - I liked her, and would have loved to see her more.. at least they didn't under-utilize her.
-The plot twist / revelation of Oki being the yakuza's son - CHILLS. What a scum of a father.
-The way they used Kirishima's son against him. Like when he initially betrayed them at the board meeting I was like that's a bad decision but the way they flipped that around. LOVED IT!!
- The ending! FREAKING STELLAR And Ryuchi's acknowledgment that "when we hurt you, our fists hurt too" Also Ryuchi handing it over to Nao and the other guy - AWWWWWWWW <3 Also that bit when Kirishima was trying to suicide with the gun - STELLAR ACTING BY ENDO KINICHI and even though I hated him, that shot of his son looking over his father bowing infront of the mum - so human, so beautiful.. like karma because he always kept his wife beneath him and to see him so weak, so helpless like that.. no matter how good / bad, all humans hurt the same at the end of the day. And the same thing; what goes around comes around with Onogi killing Ryuchi. It's not the ending I wanted but damn was it fitting. Ryuchi distanced himself from his siblings from the start and set out on a different path so to see him die that lonely death was heartbreaking but it was fitting.
-The purplish colours and dark lighting for the shots whenever Ryuji and Ryuchi met at their secret hideout was such a unique choice and a great contrast to how they could be their real selves in the dark.
- The OST was fantastic! Glad they used it only when needed. That made it impactful.
What a ride! While some scenes were melodramatic, the unpredictability, concise story-telling and A1 performances by Tamaki Hiroshi, Takahashi Issei and Endo Kenichi, who were all so flawed and human, had me hooked all the way to the end.
P.S I gave this a slightly higher score just for that ending. What a freaking punch. Hats off!
AHHHHHH so new writers were brought in..no wonder I am beginning to feel some difference post E20+ I think I don't mind adaptations being different as long as they capture the essence of the OG, and this one failed to do that unfortunately. Not like the OG was some masterpiece but still..
Do let me know your thoughts if you watch any of the dramas I recommended :)
Do let me know your thoughts after you watch it!
